Well, if I may add...I have 18 years under my belt. I feel like I just need to practice a little bit more before I am good enough....turns out that I always need to practice a little more before I am good enough. Keeps me playing though.

It's true, I am a legend in my own basement!

Wow! When I said I was sure there'd be a few people here that have been playing longer than I've been alive I didn't realize just how many of you guys there'd be. It's awesome to hear about people sticking to it that long, or being away from it for a long time and coming back. Good Stuff.

There's actually a lot of talent here. We just don't wank away as a headless torso on Youtube. We do that in the privacy of our own homes LOL.
Here in the world of the Musical City in a county in the Land of Oz.... :D there's lots of talent that nobody will ever know of or hear, multiply that by the people here like 63supro said and then thousands more and there are some awesome guitarists here in the USA alone.
Let's all give ourselves a big pat on the back!
Power to the people, down with famous posing wannabees!!!

Just trying to work it out... I reckon it must be 38 years. That can't be right, surely? :?

I'm loving this thread. Very informative. I just checked into a motel and it is always interesting to see peoples faces when a 64 year old guy checks in with a soft guitar case strapped to his back. It sure makes traveling much more fun when you can bring a friend along. Especially one that doesn't want me beer. :0)

PS my EX did hate music and my wonderful second wife arrived with her own 1962 Gibson acoustic. Think I got it right this time.

Although I started plunking at guitar in '64 for my 10th birthday I never started playing in earnest until '66 and played my first paying gig in '69.
