Ya in America i'm pretty sure you can't work until your 14 years old, and even at 14 it would be very hard to find someone that would hire you. At least that's how it is in Florida.

Grocery shops, I did that when I was 12.

Seriously though mate, you look hard enough you'll find someone willing to let you earn money. More people than you will find just wanting to give you the stuff for free.

I know it's the wrong time of year for most gardening jobs, but how about raking leaves? Surely theres some old biddies prepared to pay you to keep the leaves off the lawn.

Deliver newspapers? Wash cars? Wash dishes? Thats how Kirk Hammet paid for the Gibson V he used on kill em all.

Get yourself a shovel and pray for heavy snow this year? Make a fortune clearing driveways.

Theres lots of options and you'll likely find that once your folks see you're willing to work for what you want. They'll find you a few jobs to do too.

I got my first guitar which was an almost unplayable hand-me-down from my uncle for my 10th birthday in 1964.When I was 12 for Christmas of '66 my parents gave me my first "good" guitar-a Harmony Archtone.I wanted an electric as you did but like your parents said I had to prove my musical ability and determination to learn before they'd spring for the considerable investment of an electric guitar. For Christmas of '67 my patience and my devotion to constantly playing was rewarded with a new electric guitar and amp which I still have.I've seen so many kids wanting an electric guitar so badly it hurt only to plunk at it for a couple of weeks and then poke it in the closet.I guess quite rightly too, your parents want to be absolutely sure that you're commited to playing before springing the money for an electric. I remember one kid about 12 went into a music store with his very well to do parents and actually threw a tantrum to get a very expensive Steve Vai guitar to learn on. The owner tried to talk him out of it but Mommy and Daddy caved in to the spoiled brat's wishes and got it for him.About 3 months later the sheepish father returned with the guitar in a very beat up condition wondering if he could get anything for it.It seems that young Jr. had no musical ability and took it out on "the Stupid Guitar" when he couldn't play like Steve Vai and practically ruined it by reducing it to basically a parts guitar.

finding extra cash is a lot like guitar playing. in both one has to be creative
in his/her actions at this point.
get creative bro. after your making your cash, see if your parents will match you dollar for dollar.
once they see your serious and working hard they might pitch in.
start with seeing if you can do things around the house to earn an allowence.

You'll totally enjoy it more because you paid for it. I agree. 8)

It is not the guitar that is mastered, the mastery lies in the results, the music, not in the means to produce them. Says I who spent more money on gear than his car 8)

Then the cars are dirty and the grass will grow fast.

You need ideas, not excuses.

you know, it's been a LONG time since a young person knocked on my door asking to mow the lawn or rake leaves like some of us did. i'm not saying kids are lazy these days but it has been awhile.
is there a music store close to you? maybe talk with them and tell them what you want. maybe they'll find something you can do around the store and you can work a deal.
