Sir,

I bought a used but perfect condition ’06 Diamond Anniversary Stratocaster as my first guitar. I also bought a Fender strap http://www.fender.com/products/search.p ... 0990687000 thinking that if Fender made it, it would work well.

The strap has a defect in that the leather ends are made of leather that is too thin and supple. My guitar has hit the floor twice. The first hit was to the neck, which flexed the neck at the body and chipped and cracked the paint.

The second hit was to the rear of the guitar, after I switched strap positions. This hit also marred the finish.

I bought strap locks for this strap (also fender brand) so this would never happen again, but the damage to my guitar is done.

As CEO, I thought you should know that customers put faith in your brand but your brand name accessory failed me in this case. I’m no kid who slings his guitar around; I’m 48 and was very careful with this guitar since it was in perfect condition and cost me $900.

I would hate to see other people buy this strap and experience the damage I now have to what was a very, very nice guitar.

Sincerely,

<hidden>

Shoulda used some straplocks.

You can't blame the CEO for your oversight as to the guitars security can ya? Once ok thats a annoyance, everyone has had a guitar hit the deck. Twice, thats your own fault. You didn't learn the first time.

I understand your angry mate, but the fault lies with one person only. The user, sorry to say.

I guess you didn't read it correctly. First guitar. Actually, the CEO is responsible for his product line and should know that the design results in this type of damage. Twice, three times, whatever. A strap is supposed to hold the guitar. I knew nothing about straplocks. You seem clueless, mate.

Ok I'm clueless but don't drop guitars. That makes sense.

i always keep my hand on the neck of my guitar even if i'm using strap-locks and standing on a stack of foam rubber.
i hope things work out for you and your guitar and strap. dropping such a nice, first guitar due to a strap issue would tick me off too.
don't trust the strap. keep one hand on the neck.

Just curious, because I'm really new to this forum, did you get all those guitar picks by being a troll? Impressive. Thank you for your insight.

Straplocks were designed for a reason. And Niki is far from clueless. He's actually quite knowledgeable about guitars. Just because you arent getting the sympathy you had hoped for doesnt make him a troll.

Good advice, thank you. That actually helped me limit the damage the second time, when the strap released from the rear.

I hope that this thread will make it clear to others (like me, new to having a guitar), that straplocks are the way to go. I wish I had known to begin with, otherwise I wouldn't have put my faith in the strap doing its job. Live and learn. But the product is defective right out of the box. Too bad musicians have to experience damage before they realize strap locks are necessary.

Re-read his post. He may be a knowledgable, but he's also a jerk.

I'm the troll, hahaha you ought to stick around mate, you're very entertaining.

Now I suggest you go educate yourself as to the correct use of guitar straps. Hundreds of thousands of players don't feel the need to come here, gripe and lay blame elsewhere for their own mistakes.

Hey perhaps thats the reason for the second drop? You couldn't possibly be to blame, so had nothing to learn from your first mistake.

Please respond I've been feeling ill this past couple of days, this is cheering me up no end.

Who picked the supersoft leather strap in the first place?

Why do all of the new guys come on to complain and then called the well respected forum members trolls or whatever?

They just don't know.

IMO it's a sad trend in today's world, that whenever something happens to a person, it's always someone elses fault!!!

Take responsibility for your own mistakes and don't blame others. Sorry if that upsets you, but it's as I see it.

Wow, damaging words, boys. I had no idea this forum was populated by pissy kids who think they're kings in cyberspace. Yawn and adios.
