If you don't mind me asking, why so much reluctance to use the LP?

I know for myself, I'll try to use whatever guitar I feel fits the mood or is more comfortable for what's going on at the time. On our last recording, I was hell bent on playing one of my Squiers on one of the solos probably more because I had just gotten through customizing it a little. And as it turned out, I wished I'd gone with another guitar that I already knew fit the mood better. As I look back in hindsight, I did know better and I should have just trusted that judgment.

On our next album, I think I'm going to really concentrate on using the guitar that I feel fits the mood more than any other factor. I'll be using a LP as well as an Ibanez, Fender, Squier, and my franken-strat. I honestly wished I'd used my LP on our last album in some spots. I didn't use it at all and I think it was a mistake on my part. It has Burstbuckers in it and has a really great tone for certain situations and moods.

Well, I used it on rhythm because it did sound better than the Squier for that. I didn't on the solo because it's just not as comfortable for me to play. I can't dig into it like on the Squier, it's not set up for that. Unfortunately neither really worked, because I just couldn't let go for that solo. It's really short and it has a weird feel and chord progression, but regardless I just didn't give it 110%. I just wasn't feeling it and I never really have on that song. It's extremely frustrating, but there's not really anything I can do about it at this point.

Oh I hate when that happens. Unfortunately, I know the feeling very well. I've been going through the same thing with one of our songs for about 2-years. Hahaha

I keep telling myself "I don't get it, why is this such a pain to me. It should be easy." But some songs are just like that. It really makes you appreciate your heroes doesn't it?

All you can do sometimes is just do your best and lay something down. It's strange, but sometimes you have to compromise with yourself. When we were in the studio, there were 2 solos that I wrote literally the night before recording them. Oddly enough, those two ended up being the best ones on the cd. But there was that ONE that I just always drew a blank on. So I just laid something down on the spot and said " go with it, it's good enough."

Although I still don't care for it as much as the others, other people still like it. So maybe it might not be so bad. We are our worst critics.

Yeah, I have a feeling it probably would sound better to everyone else in the world except me. I think that maybe if I had a different style of playing it may have worked better. I had an Eric Johnson thing going on that song, but I decided against using the solo I wrote like that because it lacked energy and it's supposed to be the climax. The solo I recorded has more energy, but it's just so so. Now I'm kind of regretting changing that, but what can I do?

The weird thing is that even though I'm more of a blues player, (and I improvise most of the time) I'm still a perfectionist. And if it doesn't sound like is does in my head it drives me crazy. I can easily spend two or three hours playing something over and over or do twenty different takes of a few measures of a song when I'm at home recording. So this song is really biting me in the butt as far as that goes. I don't even know what I want to hear in it. Hopefully once it's mastered it'll sound better and I always have another chance to redeem myself every time I play it live. :)

Well, the experiment in multi-amp technology failed miserably. I plugged them in and there was a HUGE hum. Grounding issue most likely. So I just used my Fender.

I'm surprised that they didn't have any EbTech or similiar noise reduction units.

Even if they did they had already spent about five hours on the song before I got there so everyone just wanted to finish it up. It was quicker to just settle for one amp.

I may try the two amp thing again for the House of Blues, but I have to be sure they won't do that first.

So would I need two of those for both amps?

Well, better to be safe than sorry. Get through MF or someone who offers a 30 day return policy. It might work with one if both amps are plugged into an isolated strip, then the strip into the ebtech device? Good luck!
