Tomorrow my band has the studio time booked, and we're going to record the final two songs for our album. :D We're going to have them mixed and CDs printed up within the week because we're playing at the House of Blues next Saturday and we want to have something we can sell. Hopefully it'll be on iTunes very soon as well.

Yesterday I used a Boss DD-20 which I've borrowed from a friend to hook up both my amps at once for the first time. I have a stock Fender Deluxe VM and a Peavey Classic 30 modified with an attenuator and JJ tubes. It sounds incredible! I've always wanted to try the multi-amp thing and it's every bit as good as I thought it would be! :) I'm definitely going to use that set up recording tomorrow.

I also borrowed a guitar from another friend, a Classic 50's Strat modified with GFS Lipstick pickups. It's a beautiful guitar. They're a lot brighter than the Texas Specials I'm used to, but I may use it on a song anyway. The only thing is that it's set up with 9s and low action, so it feels a little strange to me. In addition to that guitar I'm bring my Squier with the Texas Specials (my favorite) and my Gibson Les Paul BFG. I probably won't use the Les Paul but just in case anything happens, I feel much more comfortable soloing on it than any other guitar I own, or the one with lipstick pickups.

I'm not as prepared this time around as I was last time we recorded, but in a way I think that may work to my advantage. It'll force me to play it differently every time, and to try new things. And if it doesn't work there's always pro tools.

I'm sure you'll knock 'em dead as always, Texas. Have a great session! Sounds like you'll be using some sweet gear.

good luck with the recording! ive been in the studio before (albeit for only about 30 minutes recording some scales for a project on how wood type affects sound) and it can be very cool and fun yet very tedious

Well, the experiment in multi-amp technology failed miserably. I plugged them in and there was a HUGE hum. Grounding issue most likely. So I just used my Fender.

The Les Paul saw some action on one of the songs, they wanted me to use it in the solo but I stuck to my guns about playing my Strat. I had to work this morning so by the time I got there everyone had already played their parts on that song. I wish I could have been there earlier for the scratch tracks, I'm still not completely comfortable with the song. I'm not really happy with the solo but at ten takes it was getting ridiculous and you have to know when to quit.

On the other song everything went very, very smoothly and I nailed my part live in the first take. :D

I really love working in the studio. I'm trying to get good enough to do it for work. At first I thought it wouldn't be fun to have to read charts and play other people's music, but it's actually quite the opposite.

If you don't mind me asking, why so much reluctance to use the LP?

I know for myself, I'll try to use whatever guitar I feel fits the mood or is more comfortable for what's going on at the time. On our last recording, I was hell bent on playing one of my Squiers on one of the solos probably more because I had just gotten through customizing it a little. And as it turned out, I wished I'd gone with another guitar that I already knew fit the mood better. As I look back in hindsight, I did know better and I should have just trusted that judgment.

On our next album, I think I'm going to really concentrate on using the guitar that I feel fits the mood more than any other factor. I'll be using a LP as well as an Ibanez, Fender, Squier, and my franken-strat. I honestly wished I'd used my LP on our last album in some spots. I didn't use it at all and I think it was a mistake on my part. It has Burstbuckers in it and has a really great tone for certain situations and moods.
