I tend to favor my SCXD when I play out and I don't use any pedals. I have the reverb/delay effect on and when I need some dirt I have channel 2 on the voice 3(overdriven tweed) and channel 1 nice and mellow on the cleans..:) I love this amp!
ABS :D

i never have used an effects loop.
some of my amps have them and some dont.
guitar to board to amp seems simple enough to me.

Neither my 65 Bassman or my 69 Plexi have them. Haven't missed having one. I've always heard they were tone robbers............. 8) Mike

Mike, how do you like your Bassman??
Beaubs, it's a great amp.All the classic Fender clean till about 5 on the dial. Nice warm overdrive and growl then. I put Weber 12F150's in the cab. Mine's an AA165 circuit. The heads can still be had for 450.00 to 575.00. Still a Blackface bargain if you ask me........ 8) Mike

Watched some demos on youtube...quite intriguing.... 8)

Nop, never used them.

Cyber-Twin floor controller and Vetta longboard are not used too heavily, either. Not for a couple months, in either instance.

Everything I read says Distortion on the front end, modulation in the middle.
A lot of the more expensive combination effects can be wired with a loop that places them in the correct order. Some of the less expensive units like the ME-50 that I'm using now can't be split that way, so I just stick it in the front end and make all the adjustments to the amp and effects and go for it.

I believe my ears more than what I've read. I just experiment until I get what I want. I always have. I grew up before effect loops were the norm. YMMV

I find true bypass way over rated too. That's what tone controls are for.
I worry more about how much cable I run more than true bypass effects.

I've never used the loop either, always been straight through the chain.

What is the classic modulation sound?

For me it's probably Quo's Matchstick Men, or Hendrix's Bold as Love. Both of those would have been added at the desk by tape manipulation.
The 2nd pick would have to be Cream's Badge or Van Halen's Aint Talkin Bout Love. Both of those modulation into the preamp.

I can't find one example of modulation effect in a effects loop on record that is particularly noteworthy.

Same with delays, the ultimate delay sound for my ears. Was Hanks Watkins Copycat into his AC30.
