Although I use several effects-sparingly-I never use the effects loops in my amps.I have found that the overall tone looses something when you go through the effects loop.I've tried to get used to them but I find that I get a much better sound going straight from the effects chain to the amp input.Anyone else out there that forgoes using the effects loop and finds that the effects loop robs the tone of something?

Don't they just bypass the preamp and eq.

No they insert between the preamp and power amp Matt. You can bypass the preamp by inserting another preamp in via the effects return. Or bypas the power amp by conncting the effects send to another poweramp and speaker.

Yes they do rob the sound of the amp, connect the in/out with a patch lead, then listen to it without the lead in. Theres a noticable difference between the two sounds.

Neither my 65 Bassman or my 69 Plexi have them. Haven't missed having one. I've always heard they were tone robbers............. 8) Mike

I don't use them, not because of tone loss, but I cba using an extra lead.

Yeah I heard a difference when I used to have a HR Deville 212. I feel it's something only we obsessive guitarists notice and if it was just a live gig I doubt somebody in the audience would realize "Hey, that guys playing though an fx loop and it sounds like *$&#!" Still annoying nonetheless, why the amps I have now don't have one ^^

My current amp doesn't have an effects loop but I would not use it anyway!

I use the loop in my Hot Rod for my modulation pedals only. Im not sure about tone loss, but the pedals sound better.

My Egnater has one, it real quiet, but I still won't use it. The one in my HRDlx was a joke, it just added noise. None of my old gear ever had one and I do just fine. Plus, chaining effects together can enhance other effects and sometimes something real interesting happens..

When I was in my early teens and playing a lot of metal, I used mine for delay and modulation effects. They seem to work better in the loop. For blues and rock, it seems unnecessary.

Beaubs, it's a great amp.All the classic Fender clean till about 5 on the dial. Nice warm overdrive and growl then. I put Weber 12F150's in the cab. Mine's an AA165 circuit. The heads can still be had for 450.00 to 575.00. Still a Blackface bargain if you ask me........ 8) Mike

Everything I read says Distortion on the front end, modulation in the middle.
A lot of the more expensive combination effects can be wired with a loop that places them in the correct order. Some of the less expensive units like the ME-50 that I'm using now can't be split that way, so I just stick it in the front end and make all the adjustments to the amp and effects and go for it.
