Thanks!

I mixed pup brands because though I really liked the Van Zandt Blues in the neck and middle, I wasn't absolutely in love with the Van Zandt Blues pickup in the bridge. I had previously tried Fralin Blues, and though I wasn't in love with the tone of the neck and middle pups, I really loved the bridge pup (especially with the base plate Fralin makes).

So I combined the best of both worlds. At least in my world for that particular guitar. :)

Funny thing about that Strat too. The pickups definitely give it something. But it's the neck that really affects its tone the most.

I tried a few other Fender necks on for brief periods, including wonderful Fender Custom Shop necks. But the tone of the guitar changed when I did that. It always sounds best with that particular Vintage Player Strat neck.

So it doesn't get modded at all anymore. It's the perfect mutt the way it is.

I kinda agree about the Fralin neck pup, I find it kinda weak, but I actually really like the middle. I'm gonna try a set of Don Mare set next, not sure what to expect, but I really liked what I heard in the demos.

I agree on the neck as well, it does change the tone... it's about finding the right mix, glad it worked out for you! I recently replaced the neck with one from Musikraft and now I feel I have the perfect Strat, but might consider replacing the neck pup one of these days.

Nice herd, I see you a DRRI-ing too. Sweet amps aren't they. Mine unleashes hell on the 5-6 volume.

Enjoy
