Just before our first daughter was born, this father-to-be received the best piece of parenting advice his mind-heart-sould could handle.

"Be the kind of parent to your kids, that you wish to Heaven you had."

All three wee girls ultimately became magnificent women.

And by the by, all thre of them like that 60s and 70s music and think most modern stuff is trash. One's even a 2010 hippie.

Kids turning into their parents?

I guess I'm an exception. My father for the most part, was a show tunes enthusiast although he liked the stuff I listened to. As a matter of fact, he even bought the Doors' "Soft Parade" album for himself because he liked it so much; he'd even go around the house singing the songs off the album. Now my mother on the other hand, well, she couldn't stand or understand any of it. She was a Big Band enthusiast and whenever something from that era would come on the radio, TV or my father would put it on the stereo, she'd turn to me and proclaim, "Now that's music, not that, 'yay, yay' $@!& you listen too!" I still smile, thinking about it all.

I have noticed that over the years by keeping an open mind (and ears) I have found music that I didn't originally like, really had some very redeeming qualities. I just had to learn to listen better.
Fortunately we also have the wonderful option of being able to not listen if we choose.

No military marches or polkas please. :0)

PS the new Crossroads DVD is awesome fun.

Although I would agree with you, I remember having the time of my life, dancing the polka. I was about 14 at the time and it was a community dance on a tiny island up our coast. The band (such as they were), were drunk, as were most of the dancers. It was a family thing and we just happened to be visiting there on my parents boat.

Somehow, it was just one of those amazing times I will always remember. (I think 14 year old girls were involved.)

Ahh, the polka!
