yea it's true....

back in the 60's i can remember my dad saying how many of the bands i liked were talentless, couldn't carry a tune, would never last, etc. i promised myself i wouldn't be that way.

over the last 20 years or so, i have fallen short. from hating air supply (chick music), to michael bolton (screaming). to backstreet boys, nkotb, and others of their ilk (more dancing moves than talent), i realized what has happened to me.

now with bieber, lady gaga, and a few others, i'm going off the deep end.

don't get me wrong- there's a fair amount of newer music i like, but dang it, i'm getting crusty.

anybody else suffering from this? any known cure?

You may be showing the signs of an affliction that many of my friends are suffering from. It isn't A-D-D or A-D-H-D, it's called A-G-E. The only known cure is death. Thank goodness there are treatments to ease the pain.... 8)

I feel the same way. :?
I'm even fighting the urge to say, "Our music really was better!!"
But I'm not going to say it.

I'm with you, PB!

I see only "cultural pollutants" with little redeeming social value.

If it weren't for lip-sync technology most of those cupcakes would actually have productive careers in the food-service industry.

In fact, they're already well-trained for a "McJob" since there's not much difference between a set of IEM's and wearing a headset while working the drive-through.

I have felt this way for a while. I decided to give in and say, most of today's music is no good. Also, I'm hearing things in older music that I did not notice 20 years ago. If new music was to stop now I would still have a lifetime of material to enjoy. I really wish rap/rap-offspring would stop. Peace out!

Lately I'm understanding my Dad's mentality more too but in a different way.

young CaptainC - "where'd my bike go?"

Dad - "I threw it out, you hadn't ridden it in a while"

young CaptainC - "I rode it yesterday for F sake"

Now that i have kids and way too much crap in the house I totally sympathize with shit-canning stuff when no one's looking.

My 5 year old likes when the Australian Pink Floyd comes on PBS... she thinks thats Floyd so i just go with it since I don't want to push my luck... I only pray she continues to appreciate Floyd. As for a cure... just embrace it my friend... I'm going out to buy a Justin Bieber shirt next chance i get.

Yup...it's called "getting old"! My kids tell me that all the time.
While it may "suck" the cure is definitely worse.

But I figure I have at least another 30 years until I have to worry about that.

Don't (the rest of) you old(er) farts get it? WE WERE TRULY BLESSED! To grow up with the most amazing, new, innovative sounds - Yikes! the Wawa pedal...Tremolo...REVERB! Granted, these things had been played with before, but really came into their own through Hendrix, The Beatles etc. No sense trying to make a list here, we all know who these bands were and we all have favourites.

Ahhh! We were so lucky. The older I get, the less desire I have to weed through the "gaga" to find the great new music that is happening these days. It's a pity, but I guess a lot of this new "manufactured" stuff sells.

Just a couple of cents from me. :)

alas- i am not alone :D i am 56 years young. a lot of music i didn't like as a youngster is now a regular part of my music rotation.

composers such as gershwin, cole porter, and others from that time were the previous generations' lennon and mccartney. i love those songs as much as i do the songs of my youth. they are timeless, and always put me in a good mood.

I dont think age has much to do with it. I wont even be 20 for another month, and I already think 99% of modern music is garbage.

Haven't bought a record since 1987 when I found beer. I really don't think I've missed much.

I'm 16 and I agree, modern music is not of the standards that music was before my times.
