Hi Way Cool, the closest you can come to a jack of all trades amp is the Vox Valvetronix series especially the ones with the 1,15,30 & 60 W settings. At the 1 and 15 W settings you can play at bedroom volumes and get great tone without any off the shortcomings of other amps. They have a 12 AX 7 tube in the preamp and a solid state power amp but you'd never say as they sound amazingly tubelike. They also have about 16 amp models of the most popular and famous amps and 16 very realistic vintage and modern effects plus all the popular modulation effects,a great reverb and 4 types of echo with tap feature. Most of them have optional foot controllers that really open up the possibilities of them. You can pick up the blue grill AD Valvetronix series(which many say were the best for sound and versatility)pretty cheap.I paid only $400 for my AD120 VTH that had cost over $1,200 two years previous when bought new and only $150 for the VC 12 Footcontroller.I had to buy the 4/12 BN stereo cab with specially voiced Wharfedales that cost $400 but if anyone had two 8 OHM cabs they wouldn't have to buy the stereo cab or they could get the 2/12 stereo combo.Anyway for $950 ($800 without the controller) I got 16 of the best amps and effects made all in one package-now that's a jack of all trades especially when you can pick up used combos for a song.

The Vox AD series does a dead on copy of the JCM 800s and 900s.

there is 2 schools of thought on that.
1) buy 1 amp and get several different tones at a reasonable price.
not a bad theory honestly. get reasonably similar tones in one amp.
this way you can bounce around to whatever tone you want, when you want.
2) you want a Marshall tone, buy a Marshall. want a boogie tone, buy a boogie. stands to reason here too. both of these companies are often
imitated, never duplicated.

And thus why you need to buy 18 amps. My rig is setup for full blown rock tone, but when dialed back remains clean.

Thus why I try make my Fender sound like a Marshall because I can always dial it back down to a clean tone.

I live by one rule when it comes to amps. You can make a clean amp sound dirty, but you can't make a dirty amp sound clean. Figuratively speaking of course.

I can show my rig with a video if you really want to see.

lol no need for video's nevin, i take your word as truth.
why not just make your fender sound like a fender? there is nothing wrong with a fender tone. even a cranked fender driving the speakers full tilt sounds very nice.
if you want to sound like a Marshall then buy a Marshall.
anything else wll sound like itself trying to sound like something its not.

now nevin, im thinking i should feel honored that you have went and made me a video to prove a point, nonetheless broke out the retired SG
to bring in the tones.
i like the tone indeed, but it still doesnt sound like either of the 3 marshalls ive mentioned in this post. believe me when i say this, im not knocking
anything about that setup you just videoed. im not a fan of buckers from a jr but that didnt sound to bad at all really. i liked it for as simple as it is.

its very hard to compare to or even beat these tons with modern amp combos.

I know I'll get ripped for this, but here goes anyway ...

The Haze 40 is nice, but the effects are not that great IMHO, and ... for me ... the tone is missing something. And ... in its defense ... maybe I just did not play it long enough to get enamored with its tone. But just last night I played an all-tube Bugera V55 that I am sure everyone hates because they are owned by Behringer and made in China. But that thing had some nice lively tone ... very nice cleans especially, and more grit in the OD than I would have expected (which is good for me as I lean to heavier tones). Lots of well-executed features (FX loop, channel switching, reverb, etc.) that are very functional, and overall it is very nicely packaged. Also ... dare I say ... really affordable. Just saying ...

I agree with your comments about the effects on the Haze 40. I use a small bit of delay depending on the size of the room. I don't use much in the way of effects so it's not a problem for me. I do, on the other hand, like it's tone very much. I guess it also depends on the guitar that's being used as well as personal taste.

While I am not completely in love with it, I definitely agree that the Haze 40 is still a nice amp ... for sure. I was just pointing out another amp that I just happened to play last night that is similar in price point that kinda impressed me.

I have a Haze 40 up for sale, it just wasn't my cup of tea. I do have a Blues Jr. and an Epiphone Valve Jr. but I am hoping to purchase this item (or if funds allow the Accomplice??).

http://allenamps.com/classic10.php

It is simple but from what I have read and heard it is a tone machine....albeit a bit expensive.
