The Orlando craigslist has someone called the "Re-Guy". He replies to the overpriced and inaccurate guitar ads, along with some other instruments but mostly guitars. He frequently includes links to similar items for sale elsewhere for less, or at least points out false/misleading claims by the seller. He is a little heavy on the sarcasm sometimes, but he knows his stuff.

He gets some angry responses, but I think he performs a valuable service. I'll bet other cities have a similar Captain Avenger on their craigslist.

I think it's wrong to interfere in someone's sale just for asking too much money or overpraising the item.

That's what I think, already enough junk on CL to sift through, it's buyer beware. If you're unsure about what you're buying, google it up, do your research.

Just saw a funny one on CL today:

Mesa Boogie "rectifier cabinet":

"This 4x12 Mesa Boogie Rectifier cab delivers 240 watts through four Celestion 12" Vintage 30 speakers."

Maybe I should ask if it has a new rectifier tube in it. :P

There's a guy in my town that gets on craig's correcting everything he sees fit to do so. He's usually right, but still......I guess he wants to be a moderator.

Anyway...what gets me is everything seems to be "mint condition" in the musical instruments area.

i think if you see something priced wrong or a seller telling a lie
they should be busted out for it. some folks on this post are saying its wrong to do so.
which is more wrong the one telling the lie or over price, or the one calling them out and making the public aware?
so who is actually doing the most damage, the guy trying to rip off the public or the guy that allows him to do so?
thats one of the problems in this country, to many people turning the other way when they see a wrong and not trying to stand up and correct it.

Telling lies should be corrected on ads, yes.

Asking for a lot of money for an item is not deceptive or "ripping anybody off." If the price is too high the seller won't get that price. If the seller gets his price, it wasn't too high.

or they took advntage of an unsuspecting buyer who doesnt know what the price should be. sure you can do your research on if a product is good or not sure but there isnt anything out there that tells you what the price should be. one can do their best with a educated guess by looking on ebay and other craigslist offers but with so many people asking for jacked up prices, that changes the averge asking price on the high side.
now, there is a way to go about things too. you just dont bust in and start insulting the seller either. sellers dont always know what a price should be set at either. in my area folks always ask 98% of the new price for the starter kits (guitar/amp) that lets me know that there is a good chance they bought it for lil johnny because he wanted it so bad, got it, then lost interest. then there are the ones who take that very same guitar and ask 98% of the starter kit price because johnny has upgraded guitars, and they think "its made by fender" so people are gonna buy it.

It's a question of degree, I suppose. We'd all try to save a friend or some sort of soft-headed type from losing too much cash.

As for the sellers who ask for 98% of new price, they should put themselves in the buyers' position. Why pay $98% for used stuff, when you can get new stuff for only $2% more?
