Just had to get this of my chest. yeah I'm preaching to the choir. Oh well.

Dear Craigslist Morons,

Before you post your gear for sale:
1. Look at what is written on the headstock. If it says "Squier", then it is a Squier, not a Fender. If it says "Epiphone", then it is an Epiphone, not a Gibson. You cannot fool us. We can read.

2. It is spelled Squier, not Squire.

3. It is spelled bass, not base.

4. It is spelled pedal, not peddle or petal.

5. Peavey Transtube amps do not actually have tubes in them.

6. Your guitar from the '90s is still far from being 'vintage'.

7. The mods you have done to your guitar has not increased its value. It's actually quite the opposite.

8. The "when new this sells for $x,xxx" price you state is the list price. You didn't buy it for that price. No one pays list price. Lower your asking price.

9. An abused guitar is not "relic'd". Lower your asking price.

10. "Used only a couple times" does not qualify for pricing something the same as a new one. Used only once or 1,000 times...it is still USED.

Sure!

I'm thinking to post this on my local craigslist. Someone there would probably report it though and it would get removed. Very tempting though.

So you are sayin a Squier is not a Fender. I have seen many that say Squier by Fender on the headstock. I do agree that they should say it is a Squier but it is a Fender.

i read the craigslist classified just to see how silly it is. you will see people putting list price on a mim strat, then price it at 50.00 less than actual cost of a new one.
some of the descriptions are so bad that i just can't believe it.
i'd rather take a chance on ebay lol

Sure.

Just like a Corolla is a Lexus, right?

You should send this one out to every guitar store you know and see how far that thought gets you. Guitars in the shops have been played over and over and over yet you want to crucify someone that may actually have bought a guitar, played it once, cased it, and never played it again. In my opinion, that guitar is still new. Does it deserve to get a store price? Of course not, but I don't see how someone trying to get as much of their money back as they can is a crime.

Then again, I've never been on craigslist, only heard things here and there. People on there sound like a collective knob fest. But, I'm sure there are some honest people in the mix.

Squier put the name Fender on the head stock. Within the Fender Forum there is a Squire area so I say Squier is a Fender. Is a Lexis a Toyota I say yes just as Cadillac is a GM. I think it is wrong for someone to not state there guitar is a Squire but it is still a Fender product.

Okay everyone, could we please dispense with the personal attacks and name calling ?
Such practices only reflects badly on all of us on this forum.
Considering we are all guests on this forum, let's stay polite, vehemently pointing out our opinions is fine but keep it civil.

The Glen Beck thread was just closed thankfully and we do not want that to happen elsewhere...

The Orlando craigslist has someone called the "Re-Guy". He replies to the overpriced and inaccurate guitar ads, along with some other instruments but mostly guitars. He frequently includes links to similar items for sale elsewhere for less, or at least points out false/misleading claims by the seller. He is a little heavy on the sarcasm sometimes, but he knows his stuff.

He gets some angry responses, but I think he performs a valuable service. I'll bet other cities have a similar Captain Avenger on their craigslist.

I think it's wrong to interfere in someone's sale just for asking too much money or overpraising the item.

I wouldn't call it interfering, the reader is free to ignore or investigate the comments. However, the issue becomes where do you draw the line between pointing out an obvious and dishonest representation of a guitar (and it happens often, at least here in Orlando) and someone just asking way too much.
It's the buyer's responsibility of course to make sure the price being asked for the item is within boundaries but at the same time there appears to be plenty of deliberate attempts to decieve the buying public especially with Fenders, at least here.
Either way, it's not something I would do myself, but I've learned a lot just by reading his replies.
