yeah because all those "projections" surely couldn't be wrong. Not going to go back and forth with you. you have all the answers anyways, take care.

I'm not denying the fact that things could change, but I don't see the reason for all of the negativity. The makings of a shift to more US production are here and there's a good chance of it happening.

Things always get worse before they get better again.

For the record, I'll have you to know I never claimed to know all of the answers. What I stated was an opinion (and not a belief). I also never claimed it to be a fact.

I just have a bunch of questions and that's what this thread ultimately is full of: questions, i.e. how has the vintage market gotten itself to where everything is horribly overpriced in general? Why spend $15,000 on a guitar when it's just a player's instrument or completely unfit to use anymore? What makes vintage gear better than new gear, especially when a lot of new stuff is being made "to spec" or "to spec within reason"? Perception?

If there wasn't someone around to ask "Why?" all of the time, in the past or in the present, well, the world would be a different place today.

But, hey, were getting into a potentially touchy subject (economic discussions will sometimes lead into political ones), so I'll back off.

my junk????? i'll let that one slide. insult your gear i have not.

there has been a rash of break ins here in the southeast and mostly in GA.
thousands and thousands worth have been stolen.
home studios, pro studios, band trailers, collectors, the list goes on.
the thieves know what they are doing and who they are doing.
each hit has been worth $15,000 or more, most being well over $45,000.
the bands have even resorted to listing "stolen gear" ads in local
in town news papers, and even craigslist, to help get back gear.
in most cases they dont announce who they are but word does leak out.
drivin and cryin being one of the lastest groups to get hit.
sure insurance covers the loss but a lot of this gear has more than money values behind it.
the police suspect its the same "group" behind it all but they dont know how they are getting their info on who has what.
thy suspect forums to be a source as well as local high end music stores
sales registry lists. not to be confused with sales receipts.
so, if the perv's can find address's of our children on the web by tracking them, the thieves can do the same.

... Should be worth $250,000 dollars? Because it's a '59 Les Paul? Where's the sense in that logic?

Who says those "examples" are worth $250,000?

The "market" will take care of "monstrosities" that were once classic guitars. Did you ever see the late '50s Les Paul that was turned into a banjo?

A lot of folks on this forum have "decent" vintage guitars. I don't know if they are "rare" ... what does that mean? Compared to today's guitar production levels, do the relatively low numbers of guitars from the classic period make them "rare"?

I think it's because for years the guru's have been telling us they are inferior to drive the prices down. Now that they have bought 'em up at low prices they are suddenly playable, historical and valuable.

Just a thought...

Hey Buddy!

Let me know, I'm looking forward to it!

I scored one of the Guitar Center Special Run MIM Butterscotch Tele's we were talking about a few weeks ago. Pretty sweet Tele for 5 bills.

I'm up in Idaho right now for some extra work training. I drove up last Sat. I was hoping to find one of the Butterscotch MIMs, but from the TDPRI Board, they guys were saying they had all been snapped up (and those guys have a pretty good network). I had called the GC in Okla City before I left, but theirs was sold. I stopped in the GC in Amarillo last Sat afternoon and about shat myself when I saw they had one. Score! Then driving up Sunday I stopped at 2 more GC's in Colo - no luck. Same at the GC in Ogden, Utah. Already gone. Now I'm in Idaho and on Tuesday I checked the GC in Boise. They didn't even get one. So Brother, I got lucky!

I like it- very nice quality. Since I'm sitting in a lodging room on an Air Force Base I haven't been able to crank it yet - just playing through my little Epiphone 10w road amp I take with when Im on the road.

I also brought with me my new Baja Tele - story on it later. Same deal though - I got it the day before I left on this trip, so I've only been able to play it on "1". I think it's gonna be pretty sweet. I get back home in about 9 days, so they will both get a good workout then.

Let me know when you get my baby hooked up to the computer. You still have my email address? I've got yours - just let me know.

RickyD

your gonna love that tele. i got mine with 11's tuned down .5 and man it sure plays nice. killer tone.
my opinion, one will have to spend serious money above the $499. tag
to beat the tones and playability of that fiddle for sure.
i love mine. havent played anything yet that i would trade for it.
yep i still have your email. i just gotta find a way to get my latest toy on the computer.
