the hell do you mean by upside down and backwards??? a righty player should have no problem teaching you if youre a lefty.... evrything makes the same sounds and is played the same, just with the other hand

Hi donniedoitall, welcome to the Forum.

More than that: I think he means he takes a guitar strung right-handed and plays it left-handed - but without restringing it.

Odd, but not unique. Not only did we have a guitarist in one of our high school bands who could play left-handed with a guitar strung either way with no apparent preference (longer ago than I care to admit), but of course the great Albert King also played like that. Notice in the is picture that although he has a left-handed instrument it is strung right-handed:

The guy I mentioned at high school had lessons. His teacher was just a regular player: no special qualifications needed for teaching someone with the instrument strung differently. donniedoitall, just go find yourself a good guitar teacher.

Cheers - C

you've obviously never sat across from such a player and tried to figure out what kind of chords the guy was playing while you were jamming.

I'm right-handed and learned to play upside down so I can play like Mr. Albert King :D

I once played in a band where the other guitarist played like the OP, Albert King, and Doyle Bramhall. Lefty and strings flipped. Man his chord fingerings were all strange looking due to the "upside down" stringing.

I just thought of another lefty that plays that way, the dude from World Party. Sorry forgot his name.

Anyways, good luck finding someone else local that plays like you do. Reading tablature will still work for you though to help you learn. Just refer to the top line as the Low E instead of the High E. And chords will be the same for you as a regular strung guitar, you just need to finger them differently.

edit: duh, I almost forgot the most famous lefty upside stinger to play a Fender....Dick Dale!!!! I don't think Dick can give you lessons, but at least this will give you inspiration I hope.

"England" Dan Seals also plays a lefty guitar strung right handed. I have a lefty Strat strung right handed.
