Hi

I don't know if anyone here uses the product,
but I will try the question here anyway.

I recently purchased Amplitube Fender full program
from IK Multimedia in England and it does a wonderful
job of simulating all the classic Fender amps back in
time.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me which combo
of amp, settings and effects would approximate
the tone of George and John on the Beatles
version of Nowhere Man. I understand they were
using brand new Stratocasters and may have done
some wizardry in the studio...

But using the Amplitube Fender software, can
someone advise me on how to pick the right
amps etc. to get near that great bright sound
on the solo from Nowhere Man.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Bill,

I looked up your reference to the Stratocasters (Sonic Blue 1961's). I see that you are correct, but boy, by the time they finished with all the studio work on the sound it sure "sounds" like a Gretsch with a set of Filtertrons to me...like George just picked up his Gretsch Country Gentleman.

An amp? I would start with a Blackface Fender Deluxe Reverb with some reverb on about 4. A little compression might help as well. Second idea would be a Vox combo with MRB on and using the strats.

Those are just my guesses to get the ball rolling for you, pal. :)

I always thought George used a Ric 330 through an AC30TB on that track.

According to Glynn Johns and George Martin John and George played there Strats in unison for the lead break and went right into the board and used lots of compression-no amps were used for the leads.I used to be able to approximate the tone with my old Traynor Mk. III with the bright switch on and using the neck and middle pups on my old '65 Strat with the 3 way switch.I used to have bass and mids at about 12 o'clock and the treble at 2 or 3 o'clock if my memory serves me correctly. You have to set up your amp very clean to really nail the tone.

Wow!

Thanks for the speedy replies and advice.

I am a relative novice at amps and electric
guitar stuff, so I appreciate any expertise
I can glean from places like this.

As I mentioned, the Amplitube Fender amp
simulator software comes up with pretty
amazing tones. For me, coming from just
a so so practice amp, it opens up a myriad
of sound choices.

I did find a simulator named TC Thirty which
simulates a Vox AC 30 amp (which is possibly
what the Beatles used?) ... probably don't want
to plunk down a lot of money for that...

But I will see what I can come up with
tinkering in Amplitube Fender.

Again, thanks for all the help.
