Hi folks,

i'm seeing a lot of really nice wiring work lately from folks doing builds. I'm noticing they use a much more manly looking cap than i have. I have the standard fender cap that came with my pot. .022uf i believe.

I'm thinking of replacing my cap and trying to neaten things up a bit in terms of the wiring. What cap do you folks recommend and pardon the ignorance but what can i expect as far as how it affects tone. I know every guitar will have a different tone but generally speaking I suppose.

thanks.

If you're changing it out on a Tele, I recommend Glendale Guitars "Pink Paisley" Paper in oil tone capacitor. COmes in a .05 mfd or a .1 mfd for a darker tone with the tone knobs turned all the way down. May work on a Strat too but I am not sure about that

Hi captainc,

For the cap on Fender tone pots, the 0.022 cap will give a brighter sound than a 0.047 (0.05 same thing). The larger the number on the cap, the warmer the tone, the smaller the number on the cap, the brighter the tone. If you want a warmer tone, a 0.047 should be more than warm enough. Personally, I would stick with the 0.022 with single coils.

Thanks all, I do tend to like a brighter tone. But maybe for poops and giggles i'll throw a paper and oil one in to see what happens. I would like to do a clean up on the wiring anyway.

Location: location, location.
Has anyone ever put an electrolytic capacitor in a guitar?
Or would that just be madness?
