26 years ago On the 10th annivesary of Jim Morrison's death, the remaining Doors members, Robbie Kreiger, Ray Manzarek and John Densmore lead fans in a graveside tribute in the Paris cemetary where Morrison is buried. (1981)

1938 - Singer/songwriter Bill Withers is born in Slab Fork, W.Va. His biggest hit is the 1972 million-selling No. 1 song ``Lean on Me.'' A 1987 remake by Club Nouveau also hits No. 1 and sells 1 million copies.

1982 - Ozzy Osbourne marries his manager, Sharon Arden.

1987 - ``The July Fourth Disarmament Festival'' in the Soviet Union features the Doobie Brothers, Santana, Bonnie Raitt and Soviet music groups.

1995 - The Ramones release ``Adios Amigos.'' It's speculated to be the band's last album ever.

1995 - At Lollapalooza in George, Wash., Courtney Love belts Bikini Kill singer Kathleen Hanna. Charged with assault, Love receives a suspended one-year sentence and is required to take courses in anger management.

1944 - The Band's Robbie Robertson is born in Toronto. The group has three top 10 albums: ``The Band,'' ``Stage Fright'' and ``Rock of Ages.'' All are certified gold for sales of more than 500,000 copies.

1950 - Huey Lewis (Hugh Cregg III) is born in New York City. He forms Huey Lewis & the News in San Francisco in 1980. The group's biggest hit is ``Stuck with You,'' a No. 1 song for three weeks in 1986. ``The Power of Love,'' the group's million-selling No. 1 hit from 1985, is featured in the film ``Back to the Future.''

1958 - Ray Charles' performance at the Newport Jazz Festival is recorded by Atlantic Records for a live album.

1925 - Rock `n' roll pioneer Bill Haley (William John Clifton Haley Jr.) is born in Highland Park, a section of Detroit. The biggest hit for Bill Haley & His Comets is the rock `n' roll classic ``(We're Gonna) Rock Around the Clock,'' a No. 1 song for eight weeks in 1955. He is posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.

1964 - The Beatles' first film, ``A Hard Day's Night,'' premieres in London.

1965 - No. 1 Billboard Pop Hit: ``(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction,'' The Rolling Stones. It is the Stones' first No. 1 single in the U.S.

1998 - Acclaimed cowboy singer and actor Roy Rogers, 86, dies in his sleep at his home in the desert community of Apple Valley, Calif. The "King of the Cowboys" had been ill with congestive heart failure for some time.

2002 - Jimmie Lee Robinson, a Chicago blues stalwart known for his pointed lyrics and storyteller's sensibility is found dead in his car on Chicago's southwest side. He is 71. He has a single gunshot wound to his head and his death is ruled a suicide.

1946 - Bon (Ronald Belford) Scott, lead singer of AC/DC, is born in Kirriemuir, Scotland. He dies Feb. 19, 1980 of alcohol abuse and is replaced by Brian Johnson.

1971 - Jim Morrison is buried in Paris' Pere Lachaise Cemetery, his family having disowned him. The often-vandalized grave becomes a shrine for fans.

1998 - Scott Weiland misses his second court date, stemming from drug possession charges earlier in the year. His second absence prompts the presiding judge to issue a bench warrant for the rocker's arrest.
