the guy tha set upmy floyds uses a vox modeling amp. a little one. its cool. i dont know which one it is but it rocks.
it was the first modeling amp ive heard. vox has a battery powered amp as well that sounds freakin cool too. a DA something or another.
its like $119 at GC.

I own a Vox DA5, it's a great little practice amp. I also own a Line 6 Spider Jam, I've had it a few years now. It has it's pro's and con's, as I've progressed sound wise over the past few years, I've come to realise it sounds a bit too clinical. Don't get me wrong, it's served me really well over the last few years. But I'm more into my Fender amps these days, and I've now aquirred a Marshall AVT50 (cheers Alanssaaab). The difference in sound/tone is very noticeable, try the spider before you buy way cool. I'm also selling my POD X3, maybe I'm just fed up with the Line 6 gear.

I have a Line6 Spider iii head (150w) driving a cabinet with vintage EVM 12L speakers. I am not especially crazy about the Line6 speaker cabinets. There are some different flavors of the Spider iii that vary quite a bit in features (and who knows what else internally). But -- speaking only for my head which has all the features -- I have come to really like it. I have been able to dial in some very sweet tone when used in conjunction with a multi-pedal (both clean and high gain). IMO, it does take a certain amount of tweaking and searching to get there, though.

That all being said, I will likely be getting rid of the Line6 head shortly for three reasons: (1) I am at the point in my life that I no longer require such a high wattage beast, (2) I reeeeeeeally miss having an effects loop, and (3) Black Friday and its associated deals are a'coming ...

Hi Snowy, the DA-5 is a fabulous little amp,if you want to get some real great tone from it run it through a Marshall 4-12 like a 1960 A or B , it can pull it off and the sound is something else especially with some of the models and effects.I learned about this from a dealer who got a DA-5 for his son and tried it and was amazed with the resulting sound.

Way Cool, I'm glad you got such a good deal on it, nice one mate.

Guitslinger, it's good to see you bro. I'll have to talk nice to alanssaab to give your suggestion a go  Even on it's own, the DA5 does the biz. I'm sure you already know that, easy peasy taking it to jam sessions too.

eck now i gotta go back out to the guys house and do something else for him.
very cool guy. i told him payment wasnt needed that a simple thank you would do just fine. he insists that he has a pedal for my troubles.
what i have to do it very simple (for me) to do.
sometimes ya gotta give back. thats what honestly makes the world go around. GIVE is the key word here. i dont know this guy hardly at all.
met him once through a craigslist purchase.
so who better to give back to than a total stranger right?

I have one and its nice for just shreading on but I cant get any real "feel" with it. I plan on getting a Fender frontman 25R soon.

screw the frontman and go with the champion 600.
killer tone in a small box at a very suprising price.

I've got a Roland MicroCube and the settings on it are alright...but a major problem is when im playing on it my guitars neck pickups is so thick the bloody thing vibrates and goes nuts on around 20% volume and higher.

Love small modelling amps but Id much rather get a good tube amp and add a new pedal once a month.

Purchased a Line 6 Spider Jam this past summer and am enjoying the daylights out of it as a daily, plain, very capable 1-12" amp, not many effects used regularly.

Qualification: Most personal playing is at home in music room at relatively low volume, clean.

Qualification 2: 'Do not have super-good "dog ears" which require really good tube amps.
