Just get a old Jen/Thomas Organ/Vox.

You'll never want another wah ever again. Why Dumbflop and Pox couldn't replicate em I'll never know.

I have to go along with Nik on this one-the new Cry Babys and Vox pedals are no more like the originals than Oprah is like Halle Berry. The older Vox pedals are getting quite pricey lately-it would cost me over $1,000 to replace my original Vox Clyde McCoy. You can still pick up an older Cry Baby if you keep your eyes open as the pots in the new ones are just super poor.I put a Pro Pot from North Star Audio in a recent Cry Baby and it helped immensely to get it nearer the old sound-much better than the Dunlop Hot Potz that are in them. If you're looking for a good wah look into the Fulltone wah or the Teese RMC Picture Wah they're a bit pricey (not much more than the Cantrell though) and almost nail the the tone of the old Vox/Cry Baby wahs made by Jen for Thomas Organ Co. in Sepulveda Ca. by an electronics firm in Pescara Italy. You can look into the Teese pedals here: www.analogman.com or email mike@analogman.com and Pro Pots here www.northstaraudio.net or email tomlanik@earthlink.net and here's the link to Fulltone www.fulltone.com BTW there's no point in contacting North Star unless you already have a Cry Baby or Vox wah that you want to retro fit with a Pro Pot as he only sells the parts and kits.

Nah not at all.
I bought my late 70's Jen for £100. Quite frankly I think it's the best standalone basic wah unit I've ever heard. Lack of true bypass and high output impedance be damned. Theres certainly nothing in modern manufacture that touches it. (and no before the point comes up, it's not down to the fasel)

The 67 Jen Fuzzwah cost me £50.

All you gotta do is be dilligent. Both of those were found in what could easily be termed a small market compared to what you've probably experienced.

Nik you were pretty lucky to come across them so cheap, usually they go for a good bit more-the fuzz-wah was a gift at that price. Even an 80s Cry Baby would be better than the newer models provided you put in a better pot.I don't know what exactly made the old ones sound so great but Vox and Dunlop haven't been able to come near replicating the old vibe.

i have to go along with nik as well , i have an old jen crybaby as well , i got mine in the early 80's and sound wise it'll blow all the new models away , i've tried it back to back with a slash and a hendrix wah , they never stood a chance , 8) , also i was talking to one of the younger guys in my local music shop about wah pedals one day and he said he used 2 of them , one wasn't trebly enough and the other wan't bassy enough , so i took my old jen down and told him to give it a try , you should have seen his face :D feckin amazing he said , then he started asking a lot of questions , what's in it , i told him it's a combination of mojo and voodoo :D
so like the others have said , keep your eyes and ears open (i've seen them go on evil bay for £45 ) also check craiglist hth

Guys I think that if you tried the Fulltone or RMC picture wahs you'd drop the Cantrell like a hot potato-they're that good!

yes but the tone i want is the cantrell with the knob rolled all the way back, and im pretty sure those 2 would sound quite different from that.... rather than treating them as the same product but of different qualities, i treat them as completely different things because (note that im saying this before hearing the vintage pedals however) they most likely are.... i can get the cantrell for $139 from my dad or a vintage pedal for $200+ from some shady-ass dude on ebay

Oh it's a marketing farce mate and dumbflop are one of the worst for it. How many times do they have to miss the real way to make a wah. Ok have a million stupid signature wahs for the kids. Just make a real one as well.
