Got a free guitar this evening off of Freecycle courtesy of BoK. It looks pretty much like a toy. A certain manufacturer is having a video contest where you destroy a guitar for a chance to win a new guitar. This may be a candidate, but I wanted to check and see if anyone has ever seen anything like it. Here's a few pics.

The body is very thin, there is no way to adjust intonation, the truss rod adjuster looks screwy and the pickups look like toys and have copper tape on the undersides. The wood on the neck looks neat though and the neck is bound. The scale length looks very short. I"m trying to decide whether to waste a set of strings on it to see how it sounds.

It looks a little like a Tiesco. It might sound pretty sweet. I had a Tiesco Del Rey as a kid.

It's very much in the style of MIJ Teiscos,Beltones etc. from the mid 60s it may just have that 60s garage band vibe it would be a pity to beat it up. I have a 60s MIJ Dover with the same bridge and some of the other hardware matches it so they may share the same parent company.BTW although the intonation can't be adjusted it's quite good all over the neck.

Kong,
Looks like someone took good care for a long time, I'd say it's worth a set of strings and some poking around, maybe even some soldering if called for.
Let us know,
John.E

String it up and give it a try, it might be worth the price of a set of strings. If I was going to smash a guitar I would get an Esteban, they are meant to be destoyed  . No offense to any Esteban owners  .

Maybe I should blow this one up instead. It's a lot less special.

Hey Kong, putting strings on weird guitars is the first thing to do, mate! Seems like some sixties design - get some beat or surf tunes out of it maybe. But DON'T ever smash a guitar unheard. Please! (you could keep the PUs if they're any good - no?)

Check it out and let us know! 8)

-Nutter

P.S.: Of course you may self-promote on that build thread list, Sir! That's what it's there for! :D

Kong,
Instead of busting 'em up, how about this idea from Mr. Feathers?

I ended up not smashing either of the guitars. If I did smash one, it would have been the red one, because it is not rare.

I had my wife's dad all lined up to drop a 7,000 lb wrecking ball on the guitar. This was after I was going to shoot it with a .357 magnum and then have him run the remains over with a Front End Loader. But my schedule got screwed up and I could not do all this within the deadline for the contest. I think I would have felt guilty wrecking a playable guitar anyway. I think I would have been in the running for the contest. The winner blew up a guitar with explosives.

I had bought the red one for $50 off Craigslist. It is a Baltimore brand and they are sold online for about $120. It's a very cheap guitar and I ended up loaning it to a buddy who had my Tele. (I took the Tele back of course.) When he is finished with it I think I'll donate it to a youth music program. I do admit that the pick-guard is kind of cool...

I strung up the gold guitar, and I'm going to have to go through the electronics and try to get it set up to some degree of playability. I agree it looks like a Teisco. The thing is I have it hanging on the wall and I think it looks cool as hell there... At worst it will make an interesting conversation piece.

I think I know exactly what that is my friend. It looks a bit like my very first guitar I had when I was 11 years old made by a company called JEDSON.

Am I right? Does anyone know? I really think it is. The neck, controls, pick-ups, and switches look the same and the bridge is similar. Mine was more a Tele design though.

Hope this helps in some way.
