I can say that I'm probably one of the few musicians over the age of 40 that has never covered "Free Bird" :P Great band, none the less.

After watching the "Muscle Shoals" documentary on Netflix, I was inspired to listen to "Skynyrd's First and ... Last" album. Then I ran across an album I had never seen before at my local used record store:
The Allen Collins Band "Here, There & Back."

I was able to preview it in its entirety on YouTube and went back a couple days later and bought it.

It is a great album (from like 1983) with a couple other ex-Skynyrd players, Billy and Leon.

Too bad what happened to Allen after that ...

Well after reading a couple of posts in this thread I've decided that I am not "Worthy" to belittle any professional musician, which commonly happens in threads like these. :|

I apologize if this has been discussed previously in this thread, but the Rossington-Collins Band was excellent, as well -- with Skynyrd guitarists Gary Rossington and Allen Collins

Rossington-Collins was formed in 1979, two years after the plane crash that ended Skynyrd. Gary and Allen were injured in the crash, and took time to heal. That is why on the cover art they choice the Phoenix, to show there rebirth, but they didn't want to use the Skynyrd name again.
Gary married there female singer (Dale) and then in 81 left the band, and that is when they became the Allen Collins band.
Being that the majority of the members were all X-Skynyrd band members, when in 1987 when they reformed Skynyrd, it ended both of those bands.

Living in the South . . . we still mourn the loss of the original members. Very talented people indeed!

Ronnie Van Zandt had a great delivery, one of the best in rock history, in my opinion. :D
