I'm personally acquainted with Bob Burns, original LS drummer. He's penning an autobiography (ghostwriter is in place) and forming his own band. It is about dang time he got his own band up! Like Ringo Starr said, he's the best! His new band will be based in Atlanta. Hope it falls together fast.

There really is no other band like Skynyrd. In my opinion, I don't think that they should call themselves Lynyrd Skynyrd anymore, considering all the original members are dead. But none the less, they were one of those bands that will last on forever. I wish I could've seen them in the 70s in their prime

Bob Burns for one is quite alive and well. Someone mentioned Blackfoot. Charlie Hargrett of Blackfoot plays with Bob Burns for the L.S. set in Southern Rock's Finest and is one of the finest guitarists I've ever seen.

Bob Burns and I after the Southern Rock's Finest show in Rock Hill, SC in May, 2011. It was a sellout.

Seated below Marsha Burns, Bob's wife on my left at the sound check.

NEXT, Bob playing the 1% kit at the soundcheck:

Here's David Muse of Marshall Tucker at the show, he plays many instruments besides flute:

Phill Stokes of Pure Prairie League sang just about the entire show, he's very energetic:

On the left Steve Grits Grisham of the Outlaws and on the right Charlie Hargrett of Blackfoot. Drumming is Buster Chopz who played all sets except the Lynyrd stuff when Bob comes out. Then for the finale they both drum on Freebird.

At the soundcheck Buster Chopz listens while Bob plays drums on some Skynyrd stuff:

The next day after the show, Bob, Phill Stokes, Charlotte artist manager Terry Gage and myself went to a fundraiser benefit in Spartanburg SC coordinated by Michael Buffalo Smith. Can you guess which one is Buffalo?

Bob Burns tells a different story of how Skynyrd got their name if you ask him and it had little to do with the coach!

I didn't take the photos, Terry Gage of Gage Music Management in Charlotte did. She is a real shutterbug.

We were on the front row of the show sitting with Marsha Burns. Shortly before the finale, Phill Stokes encouraged people to come down in front of the stage where there was about a 50 foot gap between the stage and front row. It got pretty wild with people dancing. They had been selling beer bracelets to get all the beer you can drink for like $6 or some ridiculous price like that and by now they'd surely gotten their money's worth. The National Guard was doing security. There were these two particular guys that were especially well toasted and they were dancing right in front of us when one poured almost a full beer on the other one's ball cap. The guardsmen were a little late getting that under control and as soon as the beer started flying we had to move to stage left and some of it went on Marsha. It got so loud during the finale, remember this was outdoors, that I wasn't sure I'd ever hear right again. It was just a roar by the end of Freebird.
