Nothing in that video excites me. Whats wrong with the stock pickups? Why must everyone swap out stock pickups ALWAYS?

You can do more with your amps EQ / an EQ pedal than most pickup swaps.

lol
my stocks sound good but i like the tone of these a bit better, plus the push/pull is a nice touch with them as well.

well its kinda hard to describe a tone in words to where the point comes across but its a more full, richer tone than the stock on mine, plus they have the tone w/o the brightness in a way that a tone control doesnt do.
well to my ears anyways.

Frailin.... meh.

Very unimpressed. If you're set on new pickups Lollar makes good tele pickups.

Aside from the SpecialT the only other Tele bridge SC pickup I've ever been impressed by is the CS Broadcaster bridge pickup.

I just don't use the tele neck pickup on its own. I've never swapped one over.

These may be well worth looking at, though I've no experience of their tele sets, their strat sets are divine. Not anyone to touch them at the moment as far as I'm concerned.

Heres a amateur soundclip of that tele set into a Cornford Hurricane on this page. And all their other sets too.

Incidently looking at a article on MusicRadar. At a recent function held for UK customshop dealers, over £300K worth of guitars. Around 60% of them were fitted with BareKnuckles pickups.
Here's the CS porn

A sign of things to come? Maybe?

Yeah absolutely. All the online reviews are nonsense. Playing a guitar with some fitted is a bit better. But nothing beats trying em out in your own guitar. One reason why despite not liking his pickups I do rate Seymour Duncan.

The market is flooded too. Theres choice after choice. Thats why I found a pickup that works all round and stick to that for nearly everything (SCN). Occasionaly I take the plunge and chance something new when a bit of marketing gets to me.

No one can question your decision on gear mate. After all why do we do this? To have the best guitar, or make the best sound?
Best sound comes not necessarily from the best gear, but from being comfortable with the gear you use.

The other option is ever changing. That's why I don't get GAS. I'm comfortable.

niki, honestly, im running out of gas.
i have just about everything i want in guitars.
next yr im looking to get a epi DOT, a gibson SG, and a gibson les paul, thats it. im buying a few junkers to learn repairs on.
wiring, setups, and for fret work. as for amps, im thinking a egnator
rebel, a fender champ 600, and yes want a pignose lol. thats pretty much it bro. oh maybe a marshall of some sort. after that im totally done.
theres just nothing else i want. seems like a lot but its not really.
the gibsons i dont really need.

GAS has a funny way of showing up when you least expect it. I have bad GAS and wish I could unleash it.

You need all that to be comfortable or you want to explore every avenue till you find your max comfort?

Thats a edited question on my behalf. For the sake of politeness.

Mate the whole point of having a lot of options is to find what you like and move on. Stop worrying about gear and more about playing.

Why do you think we hanker and slather after sounds recorded 40 years ago?

My answer is because were listening to players who had a very limited shopping experience. They weren't pressured with the nonsense were subject to. Buy this, buy that sound like him garbage. All they did was get what they liked and created despite having a limited array of gear to fall back on. You had a handfull of guitars, a couple of good amps and no one telling you how, why and what.
Led to some of the best music ever composed. Now we have a plethora of gear and technological advancment and little thats new coming from it.

Why?

Because were told what to buy, do, create, think.

The word to the wise, comfort is the key.
You don't need to worry about the 17 zillion tonal options. Let some engineer do that. You be not a guitarist but a artist. Don't suffer, just create.

Ranty panties eh?
Sorry.

I like to tinker, plain and simple. I like experimenting and learning about new things. I don't want to have things for the sake of having them (well maybe a little). I think there is a lot of really cool stuff to play with. I am comfortable with just my acoustic but, I also recognize the neat advances or tributes to the classics and want to be a part of it. I overstate my GAS problem. Like now since we started talking about compensated nuts I have already started building one. I'll use poly on the first few to practice since I have loads of it. That project will keep me satisfied.

I have little desire to be hip or keep up with the Joneses.

Matt
As I said in that thread, the earvana is a great start without the headaches, really.
It will let you know if that is what you want, if you give it a fair trial.

That whole adventure is a rabbithole without end. I couldn't acheive perfection. Far better than me have tried and not attained. I doubt it is possible. The whole thing never ends. What you gain in one area you make a comprimise for in another. It's more about knowing your ear than attaining perfection.
The guitars I use those nuts on are my go to guitars. The ones I keep round the house and grab at a moments notice. My gig guitars all have straight nuts. Simply because I don't expect others to hear like I do. They've heard straight nuts all their lives and most are comfortable with em.

Anyways grab my email off my profile. I'll see if I can dig out my measurements. If you want.

That would be great. Even if it is a very small improvement, I will have fun making it. I have access to a shop with good grinders and tools. The only thing I'm lacking are the slot files. May have to break down and order some more tools :D

niki

ya gotta remember bro, i took a 14/16 yr vacation on playing altogether.
lots of neat things came and went in that time and some of it stayed.
i missed out on a great deal of fun gadgets and the likes.
so i guess im making up for what i missed. ive always been a gear $@!&#.
hell, i even kept every single thing i had for those 16 yrs even though i was offered nice money for most of it.
i'll get over it and get it out of my system sooner or later.
