"music" and "industry" are mutually exclusive. the issue is that those who buy the junk the industry offers are generally not musicians so they don't know anything about the craft... while the people who study "music" understand what hard work is, and who's doing it. we look at what the industry is putting out and say, "you've got to be kidding me!"
if i'm at ocean beach, ca looking for lunch, i'm going to hodad's, not macdonald's. i'll wait a little longer for my lunch, but it'll be worth it.
good food... good music... neither require industry to be involved.
