Pics from our Rising In The Fall Festival. A few anyway. This was our show the night before our Fight For Fame Battle Of The Bands final round. Great pics of an awesome night. I have more, but I'm kinda beat. It's 3:00 am and I need to crash.

Anyway. Hope you guys like 'em. I think Fred did a KILLER job.

Oy Ceri.. It's a long story.

It's like this man. Sometimes it comes the time to work on your gear. Strings need changing, a weird noise or anything really. But generally I have a rotation of 21 and 24 fret guitars. I rotate them as the weeks go by, just by that alone. 2-weeks of 21-fret, 2-weeks of 24 fret, etc... Because switching randomly can make you cross-eyed sometimes when reading the fret-board. It does to me anyway. So I was doing tech-work on my 21- fret guitars at the time.

Of my 24 fret guitars, usually my Squier Stagemaster is my go to guitar. It's one of my all time favorites. But for some odd reason I wasn't feeling it in practice. It was a big weekend for us, and of my 24-fret guitars my Ibanez just felt soooo money.

Hey man.. Anyone who knows guitars knows that a good Japanese Ibanez is a dream to play as much as a good Fender. That weekend was just one of those weekends where I just went with the most comfortable choice of my 24-fret rotation at the time. I love that guitar.

hi again Shredd: hee-hee - just kidding, man! :D Absolutely no excuses needed for any guitar we choose to play. It's the music that comes off 'em as counts, not the name at the top (let alone place of manufacture - sheesh!)

What does interest me: when you're using a 24 fret fingerboard do you go right to the top of the dusty end? And if so, how do you manage when you've only got 21 frets? Are those the nights you do your BIG bends?

Again: great pics. Thanks!

Cheers - C

Cool question Ceri, I am curious too when do you go up the frets. I rarely played any songs that called for either high registers above 17th fret and I can slide and pluck 19th fret root notes (A - high E string in common keys) fast enough.

I need to get schooled on this.

What advantage does 24 fret give you? What key are your songs?

Thanks for explanation.

I have one solo that takes me to the 20th fret. There was a time when I got up to the 24th fret on the high E for the Recession solo, but in fact I did re-write it for that very reason.. It goes to the 19th now. I wouldn't have been able to pull it off the original way with a 21-fret. So yea, I do use the higher end of the neck.

I would say that a 24 fret guitar is more comfortable in that case simply because those higher frets are a little further away from your body when doing those solos that go 12th fret +.

That's the reason I rotate by frets. As you play more and more live, you get used to not having to look down at the frets when you play. You kind of inadvertently train yourself where the feel of it is in relationship to how close to your body certain frets are. When you all of the sudden shift from a 21 to a 24, That feel shifts as well. So I do at least a week of practicing while making the change.

I can handle going from 24 to 21 just fine, but I like to get a little of the feel for the higher frets being closer to my body before playing live. All of this may sound a little neurotic, but I have experienced going from a 24 to a 21 mid-set, and the solos weren't as fluid. I've gone the other way as well mid-set and accidentally hit notes a full step higher than I was supposed to. It's a mental thing, and it shouldn't happen, but it just does sometimes.
