You know.. I'm not really an expert about WHY. But when this kind of thing happens, it's the first thing I think about anymore. I haven't really wired any Duncan/ fender combos before. But even when I wired up a Lace Sensor pickup to some custom pickups not long ago, I had to switch the white and orange of the FLS to get them to work right together.

You know when something just sounds thin and weak, and that's usually the first thought I have anymore. "which wires do I need to switch up?"

man we did so much switching it was crazy bro.

Sucks huh? That's why I envy the pros so much. Sometimes what seems like should take 20-minutes, ends up being hours for me.

im not questioning your advice to be right or wrong in this case, but have you experienced the same issues im dealing with here?

Because I have the same pickup in my guitar and thats how it gets wired. Don't get frustrated, go have a smoke or something, and try it again. Make shure you soldier them all well, and the red and white have to be soldiered together well. The green and bare are grounded to the pot and the black goes to the first(or last) post on the switch. also you need to run that 250k volume pot for the single coils. This pickup is made for this application, I wired mine up this way and it works fine, Keep trying you'll get it. 8)

The Red and White wires being soldered together is correct (unless you split them apart for certain mini toggle applications). But the green and black may need to be switched. So that MIGHT not actually work.

There are 2 real options here once that is done in this case:

1. Green and bare ground to vol. pot/ Black to switch
2. Black and bare to vol. pot/ Green to switch

Yeah, I have two fralin split blades and the JBjr and I ran the black to the switch. It sounds great but I have it about 1/4 inch from the strings. It balances out with the fralins well. I'm wondering, did you disconnect anytiing else? also make shure you tin the connections before you soldier them so you don't got the wires too hot.

You really shouldn't need to. Since you're not using a push/pull, the red and white do need to be soldered together and electrical tape or shrink tubing over the soldering.

If the sound is still thin after you do black to switch/ green to ground, then swap those two only. One of those combos should work. If neither one of those work, you have a problem somewhere else.

Keep in mind that you need to switch to the 2nd position to see how it's responding with the middle pickup. If that is sounding thin, then you have to swap the black and green.

I wonder if you are connecting it to the right post on the switch?

Good Luck, at least you have it narrowed down to the black and green, try to keep your soldiering neat and wire ends short(don't strip off too much plastic) and ground the bridge wire alone, not to the single coils ground. Keep at it and you'll get it. 8) Dont' soldier it to any prong on the pot. Soldier it ti the backside of the pot. It's just a ground. That's your problem right there.

I've spent many long nights of trial and error my friend. Believe it or not, you will learn a lot from it, and you'll care about your guitar a little more. Even after wiring guitars for about the past 5-years, I still run across weird problems only to find that I should have planned better or researched more (not saying you didn't).

Just the other day, I tried wiring a Strat like a Tele. I only wanted to use the neck and bridge with a 3-way Fender switch. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the center position of the switch to make a sound. To be honest, I gave up on the idea and re-wired it like a 3-way Strat with the middle pickup. Works fine now. I just considered it a Karma issue. My Strat refused to be wired like a Tele.
