Riley, you'll end up driving yourself insane, yeah the tracks sound similar, but I'd bet a few of pearl jams songs sound similar also, everyone's going to sound something like the artists who influence them, can't think of any off the top of my head, but I'm sure many well established bands have tracks that sound similar to other well established bands, I heard a song from U2 once and thought that sounds like "Just because" from Janes Addiction, funny though that I couldn't remember the U2 track :) 8) just keep playing mate, pay hommage to your influence's, it's good that you want to be an individual and unique and you will in time, I've no doubt, rock on Riley

Riley, I can't remember that Pearl Jam song so thanks for posting. The two songs that you posted are cool.
I got "Crimson Gate" both times when I left clicked on the links.

ripitup555 expressed it very well:
"everyone's going to sound something like the artists who influence them"
It's all good Riley you are developing your sound.

go as far back as you dare find one of those sounds and build on that. everyone today sounds the same. music sucks today.

don't worry about it riley. just play. i think its natural for us to copy guitarists we like. hell, i'd be flattered if someone copied my riffs. that is, if i had any.

Your songs always sound good to me dude. Nothing wrong with taking inspiration and bits and pieces from your favorite artists then mixing it all up into your music. Without the people who inspired them, most artists wouldn't have a sound at all. Nearly every artist has been inspired by someone else and incorporated a riff, lick, tone or sound of theirs into their music. I'm trying to channel Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Bonamassa and Lonnie Johnson when I play so naturally there will be bits and pieces of each in what I play. it is difficult to sound "original" this day and age, just play what makes you happy.

Riley, over time you'll take a little bit here and there from each guitarist who has influenced you and you'll end up with your own style and sound. As long as you don't try to emulate just one guitar player then people will only brand you as a copy cat. With my playing you can readily hear the Hendrix,Townshend,Beatles,Chris Britton(Troggs) influence but not too much or enough of either to brand me a copier-that's the goal you strive for -take a little of each style and amalgamate them into your own.Keep at it like you are now and it will come in time.Keep on Pickin'&grinnin'.

Don't try to sound original. That's like the least original thing a musician can possibly do.

Yes, it sounds good. And of course, everyone will sound like others, that is not a sin... LOL. That's the way everything evolves, specially in music.
Good work!

Like others have said...you're playing what influenced you.
With time you'll be influencing others.
Have fun with it.

Riley, keep it up, my brother!

Everybody is influenced by somebody or something we hear. Without Lonnie Johnson, we wouldn't have BB King or T-Bone Walker. Without Jimi Hendrix, we wouldn't have Robin Trower. No Freddie King--no Jimmie Vaughan...

...yet, each of the guys I mentioned have his own sound and abilities, and they are celebrated for their own stuff.

So what if one of your songs sounds somewhat similiar to a single song by Pearl Jam (though your version has a bit more punk ethos)--you are finding your way, and this won't be the last song that you play or write that sounds like something else...but just keep on keepin' on!

Rock on, young man.

That is just one part of the song, you may go a completely different direction on the other parts. If you feel it play it. Whatever you do, don't put to much pressure on yourself to write perfect songs. I did that a long time ago and it led me to get so frustrated I quit for some years. I wish I had never pressured myself that way. If you like it and it's fun to play go for it. Then tell all your friends you wish Perl Jam would quit ripping your licks.
