Hi,

Im new to the forum, and I really dig this place. Tonnes of sweet Fender info and the members seem cool 8)

Anyways, I recently purchased a Black Top Stratocaster and its an amazing guitar, especially for the price. Plays and sounds beautifully. The only imperfection is the skunk stripe.

The rounded end of it protrudes a little bit. Im not saying a lot, in fact you cant even visually see it really, but nonetheless, Ive never noticed this before on any other Fender.

It feels like a dent on the palm of your hand.

Is this anything to be concerned about? Im guessing no, but is there potential that it could get worse, that the skunk stripe is 'popping out'?

Is sanding a solution, given the gloss of the neck?

Thanks a lot!

Welcome to the Forum TobiJ! Some pics would be cool even though you wrote that it can't be seen, it still may help, plus we get to see your new guitar. 8)

I would take it back and get a new one. That is definitely something I feel will get worse. There is no reason the store shouldn't exchange it.

You have to bring it back as two different woods respond differently to humidity and temperature changes sso the problem will most likely worsen over time.

I agree that you should take it back and exchange for one that is properly put together. It may never change, but the chance is there that it could pop out due to changes in humidity and I wouldn't want to risk it if it was my guitar.

Thanks for all the replies guys, seems the consensus is to return the guitar.

The problem is its soo sweet,

Barring this, its the nicest playing MIM Ive ever tried.

Is there any chance that it could just be a sanding error at the factory? Its a very slight bump. As I said I cant even see it

Ill try to post pics of the guitar soon, its sonic blue with a very dark mint green pickguard and a dark tinted maple neck.

Welcome, TobiJ! hope you enjoy it here! 8)

I'd take it back. Test the exchange Blacktop, maybe it'll be an even better player! ;-)

Cheers,

-Nutter

Take it back.

If it's a wee tiny itch right now, in time it will become an oozing rash, and no one needs any more aggro.

You shopped for and expected a top-quality guitar, and paid for one. "Factory Seconds" should be sold as such.
