As already stated, return it.
golden rule.... do onto others....

the other day i was in a store with a friend of mine and her kid took a wallet and placed it in her stroller(the kid is 2)
My friend was embarrassed to go back, so I just ran back and returned it.
The look of shock from the cashier and customers actually mad me sad.

upon further review, she said the kids were acting like little punks. she said if i didn't want the wrench that i could take it back. she said she'll never spend her money there again.
i'll return the thing as soon as i get a day off. i understand now why she didn't turn around when she noticed it.

Yep return it, put a smile on the guys face, that would be enough reward for me, may not even be the guy's own tools might belong to the garage and it's coming out of his wage packet.

As a professional Auto Tech, I can say with full conviction, it is not your property, and most likely, it is not Wallys either, it was the tech's who workede on your truck.

It most likely cost 2-3 hundred dollars (If it's a Snap-on) so yes, take it back to him, or you are nothing more then a thief!

my wife had the tires on her truck rotated at wally world the other day. the kid who did it left a darn good torque wrench in the front seat. let me just say right here that my wife is rather "top heavy" if you know what i mean. that still distracts me on a daily basis.
question. do i take it back? i really feel like i should because i did not pay for it. your thoughts.

Hi jeebus: not quite sure what your wife's chest has to do with this question.

But since you mentioned them I'm guessing that if she'd accidentally left her boobs behind at Wally World you'd be glad if they did the honest thing and returned them. Right?

Here endeth the parable.

I totally agree with this post, Although, Charge the guy gas money for having to run it back to him. After all HE left it in your truck. ( Unless he cut you a deal on the tires, then its no big deal...The Gas. Do return It.) 8)

You say the tires were changed"a few days ago"why are you waiting? These tools are the young fella's bread and butter-bring it back before he goes out and needlessly spends another 2 or 3 hundred bucks on a replacement torque wrench-for all you know he may not remember where he left it or even worse may suspect a coworker of taking it.You've had more than long enough to do the right thing.

You can leave the ethics out of it and recognize it for what it is - mislaid property. The true owner of the property had no intention to convey the property to you. He has not relinquished title to the property simply because he no longer has possession, especially due to his honest mistake. Therefore, it is still Wally World's property and not taking it back is akin to theft.

Had he placed the torque wrench there with the intent to permanently give up possession and give up title to the wrench, then it's all yours. But he most likely didn't do that.

Now back to just good conscience - I bet the kid is crying that he can't afford to go to Guitar Center and buy that Strat because he has to replace a torque wrench now.
