Raked leaves, mowed and edged three lawns did some plumbing work. Have to get up early and another plumbing and electrical job and here it is 2:25am and I am drinking a whiskey and coke and can't sleep. Man I need to go back to regular employment, missing the towers.

Watch this video, this is like some of what I used to do. Once you pass 100' the money gets good. Especially when done for the government.

CV, thanks for posting! I always wondered what it might be like to climb one of those. It is insane! Totally crazy! I could not do that for a million dollars Bro! You have always had my respect and admiration but now my hat is off to you. Just watching the video made me a bit queasy.

Hang in there. When they finish the new tower in lower Manhattan you can think about coming here and doing windows.

CV I tip my cap to you to be able to do that.I actually couldn't watch the video past the part where he started free climbing-I get vertigo when I step up on a curb. A guy I worked with had a cousin whose job it was to climb broadcast towers to change the aircraft warning lights at the top and he said the top could sway 10-12 feet from side to side in a moderate wind but he got paid an exhorbitant amount of money for each climb-which he well deserved .BTW there are a few families from the Conception Harbour area of NL. that have worked on the New York skyscrapers for generations from the Empire State Building to The World Trade Center they were referred to as the fish and one of them had the honor of installing the last bolt for the completion of the top of the WTC.The "Fish" and Mohawk Indians are the most respected of the high rise workers in NYC for their work ethic and their absolute lack of fear in the highest of places.I hope you can get back to the job you love so much very soon.

I could not tell you how many times I have done free climbs on military transmission towers and others. Now that I am 50 it's much harder especially after the weight gain since being laid off, I am sure I would feel the effect. Four of us in our seven man rigging crew were tower certified before the lab disbanded us for as needed contract workers. We did all rigging jobs, towers, cranes, ariel lift, on board ships, we even did equipment rigging into and on submarines. I have been on transmission towers in numerous countries doing electrical work. We have even been shot at working on them in the past with our security on the ground

Today was a much better day. Both jobs went well, I was worried about the plumbing one because I wasn't sure if I would have all the right stuff there. Turned out I bought the right parts the first time just guessing the faucet makes.

I wonder who does this type of work where I live...... lots of towers etc...
There out there but not in large numbers. Our group were multi certified, the four of us that were tower cert. also went through Electrical apprenticeships. I myself was also was cert. in cranes, derricks & hoist operation. We maintained a 8T crane along with several smaller. One dude in the groups specialty was air casters and platforms and stuff which always was handy on NASA programs or moving granite surface plates that weight many tons along with other equip.

Man they don't print enough money for me to do that. A 10 or 12 foot ladder is enough for me  .
