Muse - Live at Glastonbury. I know it's a bootleg, but it's very popular within the right clique. Anyways. Matt Belamy is just too talented. Put a great live band like that headlining the greatest music festival in the world and you get one of the best live concerts I've ever seen. Not saying he's a Hendrix or SRV, but he's has his own style. Not to mention a killer voice and piano skills.

"Concert for George." Not only is it beautifully shot and edited, it is without a doubt the best sounding concert film I've ever experienced. An awesome mix, superb mastering.

And if you don't feel the hair stand up on the back of your neck watching Andy Fairweather-Low reproduce George's slide phrasing or digging Sam Brown and Jools Holland tear the stuffing out of "Horse To Water" or hearing Eric Clapton pour his grief out on the stage on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," well, maybe you should look into another hobby.

As far as instructional, lately I have been digging the Andy Aledort DVD's, especially the Axis one. Also, I have a Duke Robillard DVD that is outstanding.

For performance, some goodies are Clapton's 2004 Crossroads and Sessions for Robert Johnson, SRV's Live at Mercado. But those are pretty much sure favorites.

A couple lesser knowns are Tom Petty at Soundstage, and Los Lonely Boys on CMT with Ronnie Milsap. Those are definitely worth checking out.

SRV- Livelive at montreux 1982-85
David Gilmour- Rember That Night

I'm going to have to check that one out, I keep hearing about it and I have been to one of his clinics that was great.

And bluestube, that Livelive at montreux 1982-85 is a great one as well. Pretty interesting history to the '82 show with the boos, and Jackson Browne and David Bowie hookin him up. Of course, it was a different reception in '85!

If you LOVE guitar playing and great music in general then pick up the fairly new release " Rory Gallagher at Rockpalast ". Rockpalast was shows
and festivals in Germany attended by many big name artists. The first one was headlined by Rory Gallagher and was beamed to most of western Europe and parts of Europe still under Communism in the 1970's. However.... the first disc has Gallagher in a studio playing for a very mixed audience. The first 35 minutes or so has Rory playing solo guitars in various styles - acoustic, steel, slide guitar and lap guitar. I do not know of another guitarist of this caliber who could entertain an audience by himself this way. His playing is nothing short of AMAZING. He then brings out the band and he demonstrates his AWESOME musical talents by playing outstanding mandolin for a number. Then.......... Rory plugs in his '61 Strat and blows 99.999999999999999999 % of other guitarists away !!!! I've said it before here and have never gotten a reply....... there is no other guitarist of this caliber who could play VIRUOSO electric/ acoustic / slide guitar , sing, write, produce, and play great harmonica, sitar, mandolin and saxophone............. NOT ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You keep saying this because you're looking for a reply??? Well, okay.

Yes, you've said it before and you should sstop saying it because it's simply not true, not matter how many hours you spent formulating this hypothesis.

First of all, Rory Gallagher wasn't a "virtuoso" on ANY instrument... even on his primary, he was limited to one very narrow style (blues), unlike, say, Howard Roberts, Pat Metheny or Larry Carlton who can all play convincingly in any number of styles. He was not even as skilled on sitar and slide as, say, George Harrison (who was a much better singer, writer, producer, etc). Dabbling at blooze harmonica barely even counts as musicianship, and I scarcely think that his sax skills were at "virtuoso" levels.

You ant to talk about a multliple threat? Consider Prince, who can play monster guitar in addition to keys, drums, bass, and is an incredibly skilled producer and hit maker. Or Todd Rundgren, who's breathtaking command of dosens of pop styles pretty much leaves Rory's skills in the dust. Or Jack Bruce, a classical pianist and cellist who turned to bass and guitar, and can play anyting from rock to jazz and salsa.

We all know you love Rory Gallagher. Fine, go ahead and love him. Now you got your reply, so enough already.

Gravity Jim.. .. you don't know what your're talking about. But then again you are the one who wants to see Madonna in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. As your little bio line says, you are an aspiring.. .......... YOU ARE ALREADY ..... but not a musician !!!!

Actually, I do know what I'm talking about, and I've been a professional musician for over 35 years. I write and produce music for advertising and film, and play guitar, piano, electronic keys, bass, and percussion. I also sing, arrange for voices, write horn charts and string charts, and dabble at mandolin banjo, and ukulele. My recorded output currently stands at just over 65 CDs filled with archive material, and I can play you off the stand anytime. (Just in case you too unobservant to figure it out on your own, that "littel bio line" is generated by the forum based on the number of posts you've made.)

So let's dispense with the name calling, okay? Everyone decided to ignore your hero worship, but you insisted on repeating this diatribe over and over, finally demanding a response, so here ya go....

You're fixated on Rory Gallagher. Fine. Just stop begging everybody else to validate your fixation. And while you're at it, grow up.

I like Crossroads, either year. SRV at El Mocambo is classic. Hendrix at Woodstock is entertaining, though not his best performance.

As for Rory Gallagher: We get it, baliman1. You have every right to be enthusiastic about someone you like, but every post you make talks about what a virtuoso Rory was, even if that's not what the topic of the thread is. At least keep it contained within the right topics. And when Gravity Jim gives you the response you've been seeking, you argue with him. That's between you two.
