My wife has been feeling very tired and dragged out for a few months now and the condition is worsening.Yesterday she was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. She has had virtually every scan and blood test available and yesterday a doctor who specializes in the malady confirmed it.The diagnosis was almost a relief as everything from Multiple Sclerosis to the Big C was going through her mind(mine too but I kept my mouth shut). We knew that there was something terribly wrong as she used to walk at least 2 miles almost on a daily basis and was always doing something around the house but this year couldn't even pull a few weeds in the garden. There is no known cause for this disorder and no sure-fire cure and no set duration-each case is unique.CFS is diagnosed mainly by the process of elimination as when everything else is ruled out that's about all that can be left and of course there are classic symptoms that she exhibits. It's a terrible affliction as she now sleeps up to 12 hrs a night and often has to take naps during the day. She's having a real hard time coping as she has always been so active and energetic to the point that there weren't enough hours in the day for her to do what she wanted.Anyway the doctor says it could last at least 1 to 3 years or maybe longer depending on how she responds to the meds.If you have a loved one that's always tired don't suspect right away that it could be MS or cancer,it could very well be CFS.

GS, sorry to hear about your wife; it's a tough one to deal with. You know that my thoughts, and everybody else's thoughts are with you throughout this ordeal.

My best whishes towards your wife, Guitslinger, I hope her condition will get better soon and that the meds work fast. Sad thing about this illness seems to me to be that one has no actual "enemy" to concentrate on and to fight against, so I guess it's vital to stay confident and happy. I hope you both do well in battling this. My thoughts with you.

I am sorry to hear this. Stay as positive as you can. It is one thing to be sick for weeks or months, it is entirely different to be sick long term. Keep an eye out for depression. It can set in later. My hopes and prayers are with your family.

Thanks for all the support guys, she's bound and determined not to let it get the best of her and forces herself to walk so much every day and still do what she can around the house. One of the most successful meds in treating CFS is Wellbutrin the antidepressant that's used for smoking cessation so hopefully depression won't be too much of an issue.

Sonoran Desert vibes for you and your wife, GS.

I pray that one of the newly-developed therapies may bring her relief.

Thanks again folks, one of the first things they checked out was thyroid function. She has had a huge battery of tests and procedures and CFS is the only logical diagnosis left

What everybody else said, gutslinger.
I've got diabetes and sick sinus syndrome (heart condition)
I can relate to the chronic fatigue - too tired sleep.
But you know something, you've got each other to care for one another.
For better or worse, it's better than nothing at all.
I hope she gets a break.
