I play a couple of american series Teles (2004), when ever I play a american series strat the neck profile always seems different. Is the the strat profile really different from the tele or is it just me?

I think american series (standards) have the same neck profile unless you have a FSR. The difference you feel could be due to the different guitar setup.

This is a strange subject for this picker; maybe it's being somewhat of a Philistine, but 'don't pay any attention to neck profile, fingerboard radius or scale length.

'Just pick up and play; mind and hands seem to adapt....

gosh JSJH, I wish it was that easy. about 35 years ago I used a tablesaw the wrong way and lost half of my left index finger and cut thru 75 percent of the first joint of my left thumb. Neck profile is everything for me. I sold off all my martins 5 years ago and as a last ditch effort to keep playing switched to electric, I worked I'm still playing. sure is tuff finding a profile I can live with, but... If hadn't used that saw..... bet we wouldn't be discussing neck profiles

Hi dogbite: it varies from model to model, but traditionally the Tele does indeed have a chunkier, fatter neck than the Strat. As you've noticed.

People sometimes describe Tele necks as being like baseball bats. My Lite Ash Tele certainly fits that bill: it is deeper all along its length than my US Strat, tapers hardly at all from the nut to the 15th fret, and has fuller shoulders to the curve of the back.

BTW: sorry to hear about that saw accident. Wow - that's bad!

Cheers - C
