Has anyone ever sold a guitar to this organization? The International Vintage Guitar Association was in town last week and set up shop at a local hotel. I brought a vintage Fender in and was offered a fairly good price for the guitar, but in the end I opted not to sell it. They explained that they had buyers on line and took a picture of my guitar and within 20 minutes I was given an offer which I countered. They advised the buyer what I wanted and the next offer was close to my asking price. I know if I would have agreed to the offer they would have given me a check on the spot for the guitar. Being somewhat of a cynic, I was a little reluctant to take a check, leave the guitar knowing that the check in the amount of the offer price would have take more than a few days to clear the bank and if they were not legit I would be out a vintage Fender. The gentleman I dealt with was extremely professional and seemed like a genuine individual. My gut felling was they were a legitimate organization. Anyone have any experiences with this organization?

Accept a cheque off some transient, nomadic company that breezes into town, then moves on to the next town. Whilst your cheque is still clearing?

Not a chance of it. Whether they are legitimate or not, that is just not good business practice. Being as though they have the whole power of the internet at their fingertips. Could they have not BACHS'd the money directly to your account? Failing that Paypal?

Doesn't inspire sellers with a lot of confidence, as proved by you Kenny. You did the right thing mate. Even if they are legit' they need to update their monetary transactions. If for nothing else just to be able to keep the business running.

No way would I accept a check in a situation like that. That said, the possibility like someone said of having Paypal available, I might consider that as a final option if I really wanted to move the piece.

Kenny,

We are still interested in your guitar. We can pay you in whichever way you feel most comfortable with and we will come back to your area and pick up the guitar.

If you are still interested, call me at 440-653-0482 and we can work something out.

Thanks,

Who on earth pays by cheque these days? Im reading this and alarm bells come ringing.

In NZ (and in ways we are a little 'backward') 99% of retailers donot accept cheques anymore. I mean come on, we have aced the 80's and the 90's are long gone. Use internet banking to do it all

Ask them to do a internet money transfer into your nominated bank account, or bank draft or cheque. I bet they will back off if you request this.

No-one does transactions like that with expensive used instruments and then waffles out of town before the cheque bounces.. I find it far too risky and not worth the sleepless nights it will bring.

One question- did they discuss price with 'a bidder on the other end of the phone?' that is a very popular sales tactic car salesmen use often, my friend. It puts urgency in the mixed and puts you under pressure to release your goods to them without thinking too much about it

Also, there is usually a 'Finders Fee' that they would charge the buyer. I guess these people are out to make a quick buck without properly setting up shop. I hate dealing with middle men.
