I have tried to use a Fender 8 ohm extension speaker with my Deville only to find that as I insert the jack the amp goes totally silent and nothing at all comes from the extension cab or the amp, my pal has a hot rod deville and I have set them side by side and tried both and the cab works perfectly through his amp, does anyone have any idea what the issue may be ??

many thanks for that, but it still does't address the issue, I am connecting exactly as the manual states !!

Your internal speakers are hooked up to (V) and the external is hooked up to (W) and you are not getting any sound but the same procedure on your friend's amp it's ok.

My guess would be your Deville's external (W) jack or circuit is suspect.
Or.... ??
