Another in the price and size range in the Peavey Valve king 10.

There all made in China, the Peavey and the Epi are EL 84 drive tube amps while the Champion is a 6V6.

Personally, I like the sound of the 6V6 tube, so I would go with the Fender champion 600.

BUT I also have a Peavey Classic 50 212 (EL 84) and a Ultra 212 60 (6L6) so I have my choice of loud amps.
I only use the Fender in the front room for late night practice.

I wouldn't get a Champion 600 without an external speaker cab. Cranked, that stock 6" speaker is pretty raspy.

vintage silvertone, sano or valco. If you want a new one the peavey valveking royal 8 is a nice one too for little $$'s. Champ is nice too, but look outside of the norm and see if you can find a gem to really define YOUR tone desires.

I have the 600 and absolutely love it! After the speaker is broken in IMO it sounds great! Plus the two tone color looks so sweet!
ABS :D

Hi i have epiphone valve junior head and its been going great for four years now. i run it to a 2/12 speaker box. its not loud enough for live work with a loud drummer it gets lost in the mix. but mike i t up and it not to bad at all. I put nos tubes in and it makes the tone way better. just a nice cheep amp. and a good back up tool.

Another alt to the Champ 600 is the Gretsch Elecromatic... Same amp, but in a different package

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gretsch-Guitars-Electromatic-G5222-5W-1x6-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=481874

If you go this route buy which ever is on sale

went to GC to check out amps. 3 different size Epi amps on display did not work. One had very little volume, one cut on and off, and the last turned on but made no sound. There are a lot of small amps to choose from, Marshall Class 5, Vox Ac line up, Black Hearts, I would stay away from Epi and Crate. Have to clean the pots on my Crate 15w tube amp all the time.

Going that route I'd go with an Egnater Tweaker or a VHT Special 6.
The Special 6 is hand wired and around $200. http://www.vhtamp.com/avsp16.html

The champ 600 is a great amp but the new Vox VT+ seems promising.

Loaded question on a Fender forum, but I had an Epiphone and it was terrible! I smiled as it went out the door
