This was my night:

Got home late from school, was drop dead tired. After a while I restringed my strat with pure nickels, my favourite. But, I really did not feel like plugging it in. So what else to do?
Play it acoustic. Man, what a feeling. Been playing old strummers and alternate picking songs now for nearly three hours straight, getting real into it. You know, Young, Dylan, Lennon... the classics. Am I the only one doing this; casually preferring my darling not amplified? Especially the pure nickels get her to her best at this point. Sometimes, it's truly marvellous to listen to her sing by herself, straight from her heart (somewhere inside her body?).
Alright, enough rambling. Going to bed early, it's getting late over here. Getting up early to look for an old military parka tomorrow - for the real Mod look.

I play my tele unplugged more often than not, but its more because I'm quite bashful about my guitar playing.

Also M51 or M65 parka?

I have a Canadian military parka and it's almost too warm if you wear it on anything but the absolutely coldest days.

i played my Tele all the time acoustically, it is the perfect guitar for sitting on the bed and playing unplugged. I miss doing that til 3 and 4 in the morning, cant wait to finish my project Tele.

I am really hungering for a M51, like the originals had. In my opinion they are also the best looking. But, these are getting harder and more expensive to find as time goes by. I am hoping to find one here in Oslo, but I doubt I will. In the old days they were all over in army surplus stores, in addition to being cheap (also why they wore them).
I found this site that deals them from England, and it looks serious enough. But a M51 in good condition is like £400, while an M65 starts at £100.
Of course a dream coming true would be finding a mint M51 in the back corner of an army surplus store, for a give-away price (notice the resemblence to a guitar situation). You have any experience on these parkas?

Also, good to hear that I'm not cutting my guitar short of power. But, will it be the same with a hollow-body electric, like a Gibson ES335 or a Fender Thinline RI?

EDIT: Spelling, what else.

I use a Vox Amplug-that way you can hear the guitar as if through an amp (AC30) and not bother anyone.

Me too, and when I taught I would recommend to my students that they spent some time playing that way as well.

My reasons for playing unplugged are-
-The main reason, and the reason I recommended it to my students- You don't have the amp or effects colouring your sound or your playing. It reveals your mistakes more--so you don;t rely on your amp or your pedals to get a good sound. Of course when effects are used properly they add to the sound and can make a song better, as can the right amp. But at the roots the technique matters, and you can hear it better unplugged, and unhidden.
Plus-
-Easier to set up--so I can play longer, or get more playing into the same period of time. (Although I still like to plug in and crank it as well--and to use my pedals.)
-Easier to put stuff away
-Easier to play anywhere in the house.
-Less likely to disturb neighbours, spouses, family, roommates. (Although sometimes they need to put up with your playing.
