Just a little note from someone that has been gigging for over 40yrs- fast doesn't equate with good.

IMHO, there is a time and place for speed. Speed does help exercise the fingers.... just as long as the fingers are playing the right notes.

Expression and soul is what needs to be part of the mix. When that goes out the window... the rest goes out with it.

Well.......Please try to understand, I play blues, so my comments should be taken with that view point in mind.

It would have been cool in like 1985, but while it was fast and well timed, it lacked any feeling (Soul) and was so far overrun with effects it was hard to think it was a guitar anymore, more like a synthesizer.

IMHO, that is the pitfall of speedmetal, as a player you work so hard to get the runs so fast, you end up sanitizing the tone.

I would like to suggest you hit up you tube and watch Les Paul, he was the original speed master, but he played with feeling and soul.
Listen to his music with and open ear (Yes it is early 50's music) but I think it will get your ears tuned to what most are trying to tell you.

Good luck.

Hey, jeffy,
I was just reading an interview of Les and here is what he said:

Quote:
LP: I've talked to some of the greatest players on earth. I've asked them "What's the toughest thing for you in music?" and I get the same answer. It's to play slow, or to play with feeling. That's hard to do. Count Basie, the longer he was alive, the less notes he could play, because of his illness. The less notes he played, the more he thought about playing the right note. The last time he performed, at the Grammy Awards, I was there.
He was in a wheelchair, and we helped him up onto the ramp and got him to the piano.
He put his left hand up, and he counted the band off, and they're playing like crazy. All of a sudden they break, and he hits one note. And I thought, "God almighty, that's the best note I ever heard" [laughs]

Euphoria, I think you would do yourself some tremendous favors perfecting the ability that Les was talkin' about.

Well put Jeffytune,Les Paul was the father of speedy and yet soulful playing his riffs were extremely fast yet he played very clean with low impedance pups so every nuance of his hand vibrato and bends were heard and not obliterated by saturated overdrive and distortion-just pure sweet tone.

I was impressed on how fast you played but it's lacking in "saying something". Maybe it's taken out of context of something else you were playing??
Yet, if that's the style you like then by all means go for it! Follow your bliss.

Les Paul.....
Where do you begin after an act like that?

These are two of my other personal favorites particularly when you get into the slow mode..... with feeling.
