That's a horrible break-it musta hurt.I don't know if you're familiar with guitar repair but there's more to it than slapping on just any neck. The butt of the neck and neck pockets have to match or you have to do some routing or neck shaving to make a good fit. Most importantly the scales of the necks must be the same,if not you'll never get it to intonate unless you move or replace the bridge.Unless the neck came off a guitar identical to yours you may have a very hard time matching them up.To get a tech to do it would cost a lot more than the worth of the guitar. That's only a few of the problems you could encounter if you undertake a neck swap.Good luck with it,hopefully the guitars are the same.

yea i have never tried a neck replacement but i have been reading how to do it for awhile because i wanted to build a guitar. If i can not figure out how to do it, I will probably just throw a neck on there and get it to keep tune for a talent show and then destroy it on stage kurt cobain style. I have 2 other project guitars a Hondo and a Kay that need fixed so im doing those too. I only paid 5 dollars for the guitar about 4.99 cents too much but i really liked it then i was learning another brick in the wall by pink floyd took a break stood up it slipped from my hands and landed not so softly on the floor.

If that Kay is an old model from the 60s or 50s it's well worth keeping as old Kays are getting harder to come by and some models have grown considerably in value and collectablity. It is a sin punishable by hand amputation to harm an old guitar.BTW if it is in fact an old Kay don't try to paint or refinish it or alter it in any way,to do so would render it worthless. With an old guitar you just clean it with proper guitar polish and change the strings and just do regular adjustments-nothing else.

no matter what the guitar, it always hurts to see a broken guitar (unless it's smashed on purpose)

Forum user Nutter has listed all the build threads that crop up here in one handy thread. Worth a look if you fancy building your own guitar. Lots of very handy info you won't find elsewhere.

The Nutters Build Thread List

Hope this helps! :D

the kay was found in a basement in a half playable condition. someone had done an awful spray paint refinsh over this beautiful cherry red color with anawful black that dried real ugly and ran it has been getting sanded down. I tried to just get the spray paint off but it was impossible to get it back down to the orginal color  it needs a few pieces. But i have had it playing before

Also thanks to everybody who has responded i figured u would see the words First Act and be like ahhh not another noob. I have been playing for 3 years and im still learning alot. With the continued responsesi can learn more about how guitars work and how to fix them
