Everytime i go into a guitar center its just total bs. half the amps aren't pluged in. you have to pull them out of that wall case to find the plug. the guitars are a mess with missing switch knobs, dings, nicks. its like a guitar playground. literally. now i only go there to pick up strings and thats if im really close. the people there are really uneducated about the gear and just want to sell you what they make comish off of. ugh. had to vent a sec.

i understand where you are coming from, as I NEVER buy anything from Guitar Center. never. but where else can you go and play any guitar you want, any amp you want and try every brand they have to offer? Not many places like that around here. So use it for what it is worth: to try as many guitars as you want before deciding on one. Then get it from a local mom and pops shop.

And you only now just figured this out......?

If Guitar Circus were an automotive manufacturing entity, it'd be known as "Yugo".

I actually went there today and found a really great amp for $299. Peavey Valveking 112 (50W tube amp, class A/B). New the amp is $429 and is on sale at $399. But I found it used out of state for $199. I'm getting them to lower their price. Hopefully it will be enough to get the footswitch that's not included.

Is it me or is there like 4 posts like this posted a week? Is Guitar Centre really that bad?

They vary from store to store. They backed out of a trade deal on me, I got miffed and emailed the corporate office. They called me the next day and made it right. The manager is a total A Hole.

For what it's worth, I've had pretty fair to good experience.
I recognise the conditions you speak of but if I were guitar center,
I would be more inclined to make all the new items demos and be priced
as such. The customer DOES have the option to order new in box and not
buy what they are playing on the floor and they DO have a 30 day return policy.
As for the representatives, I think contacting corporate office is fine if the issue you are having cannot be addressed with the local manager.
And yes, most of the representatives are uneducated about a lot of the gear they sell. This is why I do 95% of my homework online and 5% inquiry of the reps. IMHO, Guitar Center would be wise to offer the reps incentives to get to know their gear better. Maybe even color code their dress so you can spot a rep instantly that doesn't know squat and one that does.
ex
PINK Shirts don't know squat.
BLACK Shirts are genuine veteran know-it-all's
RAINBOW Shirts are for those who will hold your hand.
etc.

LOL :D What happened to me was I brought an old Roland 707 Guitar Synth in after calling to see if they were interested. The manager made a deal with me on a trade for a used Ibanez AS73. I needed a beater guitar. They made the deal, then the manager backed out and sent some flunky sales guy to tell me. That's when I got pissed. They also had a trade in trade up offer when I bought my Egnater head and cab. They would only give me the 15% off the head even though they sell it as a half stack. These guys are real tools.

I've only had one experience with them since there are none all that close to me.

I found a used Line 6 bass amp/Lowdown 150 at a good price. I called them up and explained that I was an hour away so wanted to line up a tentative trade in rate on my stuff and cash payout. We came up with what I thought was a fair deal, drove an hour and made the sale.

Than about two weeks later I looked them up to see what they were asking for my trade in, for a 1/2 stack and head they only marked it up $45 more than they gave me on the trade, I thought that seemed pretty fair.

Than, I also noticed a used Line 6 Lowdown 300 that they had for sale. For only $40 more than I'd just paid out for the 150. I called them up and they said "no problem, we have a 30 day money back guarantee" so I drove back, gave them the 150 and $40 more and I had the 300.

All in all, I was satisfied with the deal and that's been my only dealing with a GC.

I guess those of us in in the Dallas/Fort Worth area either have good managers or we have lower expectations...most of my experiences have been pretty good with Guitar Center. It seems whenever there is a "tool" hired, he is gone pretty soon.

I don't trade in anything, anywhere. You'll always get screwed. That's why eBay and Craig's List exist.

I do miss the old "10% off anything" coupons, but the only thing I would like is a greater selection of pedals in stock.

I get a giggle out of all these posts against bad stores, not because I find it amusing that people get screwed, but because they seem to keep going back to the same stores at which they got screwed...

i find customer service overall is lacking these days. not just GC. howevah, the GC here in arlington, tx is great. sure, there's always a few a-holes but thats anywhere. i usually call ahead to see if if "mike" is working that day. he is very honest and does not try to seel me the store.
hope you find a better place to spend your money

I bet he didn't even get a kiss from the guy in the Rainbow shirt, either.
