I just discovered this guitarist named Rory Gallagher and I am completely blown away. The guy sounds like Clapton and Page thrown together! I read up on his history and stuff and this guy is the epitome of under exposed and underrated. What a great story about his strat. Rory Gallagher is now my 2nd fav guitarist. Sorry Jimi

I'm with you man, I "discovered" Rory a while ago after hearing so many people talk about him and like you I was blown away. I've said many times that "A Million Miles Away" from Irish Tour is absolutely beautiful, has to be one of the best recordings ever. He's my third favourite player after SRV and Jimi.

Well, there's a legend of somebody asking Jimi Hendrix after Woodstock how it felt to be the world's best guitarist....he was rumored to answer,"I don't know,go ask Rory Gallagher."
Jimi and Clapton both would have been well aware of Rory,he had a power trio named "Taste",that was pre Cream.
He was great.

Not joining the Stones was Rory's best career move,if he had joined them Mick and Keith would have stifled his amazing creativity just like they did with Brian Jones.I was lucky enough to be sat in second row center when Rory played at the University Student Centre here in the mid seventies. He played all of the Tattoo and Bluesprint albums as well as many other songs, the incredible sound he could get from just a Strat and a couple of beat up AC 30s was amazing.I believe he may have used some kind of boost pedal but if he did that was the only effect. All that wonderful sound just emanated from his gifted hands on his trademark Strat. They Don't Make 'em Like You Anymore and Walk On Hot Coals were the high points of the evening.
