which would you pick for a project, a squier 51, or a squier classic vibe?
next question is why?

I'd do the '51. Lots of potential to do a lot of different things. The Squier '51 Forum has some pretty rabid '51 lovers.

Check this link for a Custom Shop Cruz '51 - it's pretty neat looking... (4th, 5th and 6th picture down)

If the Classic Vibe hasn't been modded, I'd leave it like it is. I think they're pretty sweet just the way they are.

I love my '51's!

Squire 51.

Why? They are cool. There is pretty much a sub community dedicated to the guitars.

yes there is. pretty amazing actually nevin.
man that guitar has a lot of functions on it. with some quality pickup
and a proper setup i bet they can really produce.

yeah i read a story on them today.
nobody wanted them greatly in part for the fact the way fender advertised them. they were advertised like a toy would be.
even the sale people at the stores didnt respect them enought to push them. most of them didnt even try them. so fender was forced to let them go dirt cheap as the story goes, and quickly discontinued them.

This brings up a good question to discuss.... anybody know of any guitars currently out there that are being discontinued? See anything marked down at your local big box store?

As the year ends these deals tend to pop up.

ys they do nevin, they have to pay tax's on inventory so they tend to let things go a lot cheaper. deals will be had for those ready for them.

You just tell her that just because I'm the great guy I am, I'll trade you a whole bunch of my collection for just one ol' hunk o' junk in your collection. (I get to pick the hunk o' junk. ) That way you just have to give up one guitar and you'll gain a whole bunch of interesting Fenders - that should cool your GAS for awhile and keep you out of trouble w/ the gf. Heck - I'll even throw in my new B-Bender Tele that's supposed to arrive this week from Sweetwater! Think of it Buddy - a B-Bender Tele - pretty sweet - it could be yours...!

Serious Bro, you need to score up some '51's. I've got the idea to try to do a period correct '51 to match my Classic Series Tele's from the '50s, 60's, 70's and a modern Tele. Think of what you could do - bakelight pickguard, rosewood necks, an Esquire '51, a double humbucker '72 '51, etc, etc. There are all different ways to mod '51s.

I think Fender is missing the boat by not making a Fender Special Edition MIM or MIA '51...

lol that seriously wont work. she says i have WAY to many guitars as it is.
i like all the configs these guitars have. a modders dream i think.
where are the 51's made anyways?
robert from dolphinstreet (the website) has one thats black on black.
it looks real nice too.
so have you ever played the classic vibe 60's ? they play pretty good too as long as they are set up.
