Slipknot can get heavy, Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin, Slayer, Metallica, Korn, too many to list. Industrial hard core rock gets heavy but when you mix it with speed metal and thrash you get "speed core" which can get insane.

+1! I've done alot of research into Metal so this is my strong OPINION :)
They are Fast... But thats not why I believe them to be heaviest.

The story of the band,Each musician is heavy in there forte. the topics there songs are written around :D

I vote for Sabbath. Speed doesn't equal "heavy" to me at all.

this is why i hate most thrash metal bands... forget if the song i posted was fast, but the melvins stuff is usually on the slower side of metal (they pretty much invented what is now called "sludge metal")

i like sludge metal.

i reckon black flag

I have something else so extreme i dont care to show it for now but, if people really want me to share it i will. Its so heavy it doesent even have guitars in it. It once made a friend of mine cry. No jokes.

+1, that so heavy it doesn't sound good

Oh this is too easy for me.. This title belongs to KORN hands down.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCIcyKmJj5I

The problem with most Metal is that the guitars are very high-strung in the highs. Of course it's on purpose for its picking response. No drag = speed. I think so far in this thread Black Sabbath was the closet I saw to what I consider "heavy" or brutal Bass tones. Korn, however uses down-tuned 7-String guitars and a 5-String Bass for their music. So the sound is heavier, and they nurture that characteristic very well.

Well done sir. Now we're in the realms of something being so heavy and extreme its close to being unlistenable. I'll play my ace. All im going to say about these tracks are they used mental patients in underground studios and the effects of it was so leathal the producer shot himself.

BTC, this reminded me of Bedlam, a tough one to listen to, not sure whether to say thank you or perhaps a blood curdling scream would be appropriate
