Help you out... how? Are you looking for someone to record you for free? Suggestions on recording on the cheap? Used recording gear?

No offense man, but if you don't even know what basic gear to get you probably have less of a clue on how to use it. The cost of a computer based program, mics, compressor, preamps, cables and the learning curve....well you might as well just save up for some cheap studio time.

For home rec'ing i use:

AKG Mic
iRiver H120 (my mp3 player, use it as a mic amp - does the job!)
Shure E2C 'phones
Garageband
Macbookpro

+ cables

Mic > iRiver > mac line in > garage band
v
heahphones for monitoring

Does the job :)

There's also a thread on here somewhere called the home recording club. Might want to give that a look.
