Classical Guitar? I have been playing Classical Guitar for two years as well as my electric for 12. I absolutely love Classical Guitar. In my opinion, I believe that you can do much more with a Classical Guitar dynamic, emotion, and speed wise. It is such a beautiful instrument as well as the electric and acoustic, but in my opinion there is nothing closer to the soul than a traditional Classic Guitar. So does anybody else play the Classical Guitar? If so what brand do you have? Also how long have you been playing? Are you working on anything now? I own a Washburn. :)

Don't own one but my first guitar was a nylon string I was given by an aunt many moons ago, don't know if what you say is true for everyone though Classical being closer to the soul than others, had a few guitars in my time but always end up with my strat plugged or unplugged, also while I can listen to classical guitarists and get almost hypnotized listening to them play I could say the same about jazz, blues, country or rock I'd think it would always come down to the quality of whichever guitarist was playing

Yeah, I play classical. I own a brand called Paax Muul, it's not well known or anything, the company was founded on a grant by a charitable organization and they make descent instruments. I mean, mine has a solid cedar top and rosewood side and back along with a cedar neck and ebony fretboard, sounds pretty nice for $850. Only thing QC ain't that great so I wouldn't recommend anyone buy one online, but I digress...I'm looking forward to one day having a hand-built one, but that's when I actually have money :P

I've been playing classical for about a year now, practicing various etudes by Carcassi, Bach, etc... very general stuff. Right now I'm working on cleaning up my scales, to say they need cleaning would be an understatement. One of the main reasons I enjoy classical is you don't need anybody else, you can play the melody and the bass/rhythm all by yourself. Same with blues and folk, everything else you need more people. When I play electric solo it always sounds like something's missing, but with a classical I can keep all the enjoyment to myself ^^.

I'd love to be able to play classical guitar and I have dozens of CDs by Fisk,Segovia,Romero,Diaz etc. but I can't get the hang of finger picking no matter how hard I try.Hendrix stuff no problem Bach or Paganini-forget it.

I've been playing Classical (and Flamenco) Guitar since 1970. I have had several Classical and Flamenco Guitars hand made especially for me by one of my greatest mentors, Senor Guillermo Del Pilar, Sr. As a matter of fact, he deliberately made his last guitar before retiring specifically for me back in 1992.

IMHO, the true heart and soul of guitar are found in Classical and Flamenco Music. Of course, both styles are a discipline unto themselves where hours of daily dedication are involved. It is undeniable that the rewards for the serious abound a thousand fold where the knowledge and technique learned therein surely carry into all contemporary genres of music. YMMV.

Just a little trivia note:Robbie Krieger of The Doors only played flaminco and classical guitar and only took up electric when he joined the Doors and bought his P-90 equipped SG.

I totally agree it is just you and the instrument. All the while I get the gratification and feeling of accomplishment from playing the Classical Guitar because it does take a lot of discipline to master. Every time I pick it up I feel great because I know that I am playing a very beautiful instrument that is not the easiest to play. Good luck man on those scales too, I wrote all of the scales out in three octaves to practice them for school, and am cleaning them up as well. Also making them smoother. I'm glad to have fellow Classical Guitar players in here as well as electric.

when in college I had a Yamaha classical guitar and played in the string ensemble, it was fun and a great learning experience. I don't remember any of the musical pieces we played and sold the classical guitar long ago. I'm a whiskey rock and roller after all 8)

I started with classical.
I took lessons in it for a year and a half, then went electric, as that is more where I'm at.

But I enjoyed it and took two more years of classical lessons as an adult when I was teaching guitar.

I don't play it often anymore, but I do play my classical guitar I got when I started--I play a variety of music on it, even classical guitar.

I appreciate it more now than I ever did, but I'm more into blues and rock, but it's a good style to learn, it has a lot of application to the guitar itself.

I was taught for well over a decade by my greatest musical mentor, Leonard Trerotola, Sr. (aka, "Lenny Terry"), right up until his death. It was he who introduced me to Senor Del Pilar.

i do love classical playing but as others have said, you can get just as much emotion from other genres as classical.

Neo-Classical at first! but I've gradually researched more into it and began learning original pieces on my strat...I own a Nylon and play some slower pieces on it fingerstyle but I avoid anything complex as I am focused on Electric. :)
