In Sept. '06 a PA. woman was on a caribou and bear hunting trip with her husband,2 children and brother in law in the interior of NL. One evening while sitting in the truck she shot at what she said later she thought was a bear but was in fact her husband. There have been many discrepancies with this case among them-she was using a light gathering scope: she didn't call out to see if the target was her husband who she knew was gone off in that area:her husband had expressed to his best friend and his brother and others that he was afraid she would shoot and kill him sometime:she had taken out a $500,000 insurance policy on him shortly before the trip:she had shot at a previous boyfriend some years ago. None of this was entered in the trial as her charge was dangerous use of a firearm not manslaughter or murder. This woman was a skilled hunter, owned over 100 guns and could shoot a target as small as a cell phone at 500 yds. She was found not guilty and acquitted. The whole episode of tonight's documentary on the case can be seen at www.cbc.ca/thefifthestate the show would give you the chills especially when you find that his brother that went on the trip with them left his wife and moved in with his brother's killer when they returned from the trip. There are many more mitigating factors that make this look like more than an accident.

It certainly looks that way'it's chilling to hear how cold and calm she was just a couple of hours after the shooting when being interrogated by the RCMP.They weren't even going to charge her with anythig until Mark Harshbarger's father brought to their attention her past behaviour, her penchant for violence and her being put in a mental health facility for her behavioural issues. It's certainly a thought provoking program and one can see that the prosecution and police just blew the case and she walked away with $500,000 and her dead husband's brother.

Thats absolutely crazy! You wonder how many people have gotten away with things in the past.
