What's with the odd differences in MSRPs for the instruments?

American Standard Precision Bass: $1799.99
American Standard Jazz Bass: $1899.99
Standard Precision Bass: $779.99
Standard Jazz Bass: $829.99

Does the extra pickup and volume knob make that difference? If so, why doesn't the Telecaster have a different (lower) MSRP than the Stratocaster which has an additional pickup, tone knob, and tremolo/vibrato tailpiece? They both have an MSRP of $689.99 for the Standard series or $1299.99 for the American Standard :?: Then when you get to the Squier series, the basses and guitars even share the same MSRP. That is especially odd considering the basses cost noticeably more than their guitar counterparts higher up the series (ie. MIM Fender and up)...

Random thought of the day :)

Very interesting thought-I'll have to do some pondering on that for sure.

Ha! Good point, far as the guitars are concerned.

A Jazz Bass clearly takes some extra work to build so costs more than a P-Bass. Why doesn't the same differential apply to the guitars?

I guess because Tele players seem prepared to cough up as much for their instruments as Strat players - so that is what they are charged. Even though there's a lot more work and parts in a Strat. Oh, the cold, harsh world of business!

Cheers - C
