The placement of the mounting holes for switches and assorted hardware is certainly close enough to make you wonder if it was in fact one of Red's original bodies.Les rarely played the Les Pauls he was given without doing his own mods on them.Usually the first thing to go was the pickups as he prefered low impedance pickups to the standard Les Paul pups.

Not one of his own bodies, his early stuff was very crude looking.

Gibson sent him 3 white (They were white because he wore a black Tux when he played them,) Customs like this in '58 to use on the Bell Telephone Hour. One was an arch top model with a Bigsby and an unbound fretboard, 2 were flattops, the one Mary used had a vibrola. All used low impedence pickups.

Looks like a regular Les Paul Recording to me with a Bigsby.

I found this clip by putting "Paul Verizer" into Google. I remembered the box and figure that is what he is showing off here.

If that had been the guitar that Gibson offered for sale to the public in 1959, Jimmy Page would've stuck with his Telecaster and Eric Clapton would've always been known as a Strat player.

That is the butt-ugliest waste of otherwise perfectly good mahogany I have ever seen. And having played LP's with those low-Z pickups a few times, I can categoricaly state that had those been the only pickup that Gibson ever installed on their instruments, Fender's ascendancy to the top of the R&R guitar food chain would've been undisputed.
