ricky

thank you for your 23 yrs my friend.
yes i like it when folks question. its a sort of checks and balances system in my eyes. there is just folks out there that love their country enough to question things ya know.
i think folks tend to skip over the could be meaning behind songs a lot of the times. i know i have before.
nothing wrong with the Boss if ya ask me.
the next topic will be john cougar melloncamp lol

Hey RickyD

Lot's of respect from this area of the world mate. I pretty much agree with you. People have laid their lives on the line, for that I'm eternally thankfull. It aint their fault that sometimes their asked to do it for questionable motives.

Now I've got that out the way, Wild, Innocent and E street Shuffle. And Nebraska are my fave albums. There really are some great songs/ideas on Nebraska, you can have a lot of fun covering some of em if you don't stick too close to the demo.
I think Wild has it out of all of Bruces albums. Young enough to be edgey and sophisticated enough to be taken seriously.

I like Tunnel of Love too cos I got to see them songs performed on that tour. Makes em all the more real in my book, when you see a artist play what is relevant to him at that time.

Question for Floyd cos I don't want to berate him and want to get him to have a real look. If Springsteen was so 'gung ho, my country right or wrong'. Why did Joe Cocker have so much to do with him when Cocker was to quote 'So bored with the USA'.

Theres one for you to look up and have a listen to mate. Theres not that much difference in sentiment between Born in the USA and Bored of the USA when you listen to em properly. I like you didn't twig onto 'Born' for the first few years I heard it. The chorus overpowered the verse and it was about stuff I was too young to understand at the time.

Huge fan of the Boss. His New Years Eve show that I attended back in the late 70s, maybe early 80s, was the gold standard of concerts to me. Got to high-five him when he went into the audience. I really like his early stuff. Not so much his later albums. You have to listen to the words to really enjoy his songs. The early stuff was more raw, poetic, and great stories.

Floyd, my little brother,

You need to go back and listen to Born in the USA again. This isn't a "America is the best" song. It's a protest song about a lot of things the Boss feels are wrong with America.

This is one of the songs the guys above are talking about when they say they don't like Springsteen for his politics:

Born down in a dead man's town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
'Til you spend half your life just covering up now

Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

Listen to and understand the words, not just the chorus...

RickyD

then in that case, agree with the politics (america: we f**k everything up), still dont really like the music... just sounds cheesy IMO

George Bush showed how out of touch he was when upon meeting Bruce Springsteen told him that Born In The USA was one of his favourite songs .

way cool,

Born in the USA is prolly one of the most misinterpreted songs ever recorded.

Do you feel the same about David Bowie's "Ground Control to Major Tom"? I think NASA or the Networks played this during the 1969 moon landing. I thought that was strange.

Back to the subject, the Boss is great. I also still believe in American exceptionalism. He should too, given what he has been able to accomplish in this country.
